"Heya Girls!"
Fortunately, I’m very good at pushing thoughts to the back of my mind. I keep forgetting that every time we produce a CitySpotterGirl book the stress level reaches unbelievable heights. But then, when a semi truck drives from the printing company to Vienna, filled with many colorful, good-mood inducing “Wiener Entdeckungen” (“Viennese explorations”) – that is when everything in my world is in perfect order once again! Surprise: this year we have done double the work and written two books. The first one called “Wiener Entdeckungen 7” was published yesterday! In it you can find new, fine, cool, hidden, awesome, famous and also insiders’ tip-like shops and restaurants that opened their doors during the last year. And even more: because we wrote an extra chapter in order to present to you different 100%-vegan restaurants in Vienna. If you want to buy the book you can do that from now on in every bookstore and also in the web-shop of the CitySpotterGirl. You can sample read it here! And the second book? Well, you have to wait two more weeks for that ;-)

Wishing you a fascinating week

Winter at MQ 2016
Bad news first: all the summer and autumn lovers have to be strong now and put on some warm clothes, because winter is coming! As always accompanied by drums and bass at the MQ – which brings us to the good news. Because today there will be two opening concerts by Mavi Phoenix & Edwin in order to get you in the right party mood and heat you up. Warming up and having fun is also possible with Punsch and snacks in the six ice pavilions or while winter racing. Until December 23rd there will be the chance to lighten the mood of the winter grouches with cool acts and atmospheric light shows. Sounds good!

 H&M
Kenzo for H&M
Hurry up, ladies! Because now you have to be quick, the hype is enormous and a huge crowd is guaranteed: from today on selected H&M stores are offering fashion from the originally Japanese designer label Kenzo. Ever since the duo from the US Humberto Leon and Carlo Lim have become their creative directors, the label has been very much in style. For their H&M collection they chose wild mixes of patterns and animal prints, loose dresses and cool jackets. That the CitySpotterGirl adores this orgy of patterns doesn’t need further explainations ;-) So, ladies: it’s time to enter the battle!

Dance school Schwebach
A new hotspot for all hobby dancers out there: today the dance school Schwebach opens its new and huge location in Donaustadt. Long night of world music
Vienna is colorful and the multicultural music scene of the city is just another form of proof. Tonight at the Long Night of World Music various live acts will demonstrate the musical and international flair of our metropolis. Part of the program are for example the thoroughbred musicians Insingizi from Zimbabwe with a capella singing and wonderful choreographies, the singer Özlem Bulut with orientally inspired sounds and the enchanting Argentine duo Paula Barembuem and Daniel Mesquita. By the way, the Sargfabrik is celebrating its 20th birthday tomorrow with a party. Happy B-Day!

Hofstätter depot vintage pop-up
The former Roman bath in Leopoldstadt is a place not even the CitySpotterGirl knew about because until now it wasn’t open to the public. It used to be one of the most luxurious baths of the world and was mostly destroyed during the Second World War and then forgotten. Now it can be visited once again: at a vintage pop-up in the columned hall there will be furniture presented from the estate of the art dealer Reinhold Hofstätter. Ranging from baroque chairs to sideboards from the 20s anything can be seen and purchased by auction. Abundant testing of the furniture is allowed and can be enjoyed with coffee and cake!

Future Of Meat Forum
Can we imagine a future without meat? And do we actually want to? And in what way will we be enjoying meat in the future? At the “Future of Meat Forum” everything will be revolving around the topic of meat consumption. At the center of the event will be an installation of the Dutch social designer Madeleine Berlis, which shows five possible scenarios for the future: they are supposed to help approach the highly emotional topic of “eating animals” without prejudices and in a constructive manner. That will be happening for example today at the panel discussion (with only women discussing!) about meat substitutes. Interesting!

Casamance in the moonlight
Colorful and happy and African: a two-day mini festival celebrating everything around the Casamance, a region in the south of Senegal. The opening was last Friday at the Nuu with a Senegalese dinner, drumming and dance workshops, and tonight at the Reigen there will be a Senegal night with traditional Kora music, ritual protective-spirit dances and a performance of the musician Karim Thiam. He will present a cool mix of African pop, folk and groove and afterwards things will turn afro-cuban with the Petaw Band. Next to music and dance, you can also enjoy Senegalese art ranging from paintings to live performances.

And those can be bought today in exchange for a donation! There will be costumes from Epofilm, Secondi and Golden Girls to spruce up your wardrobe (in an unusual way). Urban Vienna 2016
An exciting look on anything that is happening in Vienna around the topics of Green thinking, lifestyle and innovative life style concepts! At the Urban Vienna different companies, institutions and platforms that breathe new life into our city will present their work. For example the company Rooftop Projects, that turns terraces into green paradises or the self-storage platform MyPlace that has come up with a smart solution for the shortage of space in cities. Culinary innovations come from “Schleckdruff” with (frozen) long drinks on a stick or the “Creperie Mobile”.

Night concert at St. Stephen’s Cathedral
A jewel among the events of this week! The cathedral at night (the event starts at half past 10) will be filled with the sounds of modern classical music. The Swiss viola player Anna Spina will be presenting the space-filling compositions of Giorgio Netti from Milan at the cathedral, first above and then in front of the audience. Her solo viola, which has been unrecognizably modified, assumes the role of the storyteller after coming back from an odyssey. Goosebumps guaranteed! The concert is free of charge and part of the festival “Wien modern” that will be going on until the end of the month.

Nespresso Hotel Dining Weeks
It is well known that the CitySpotterGirl doesn’t want to leave all the luxurious hotels in Vienna only to the tourists. So it’s very nice that now and until November 13th during the Hotel Dining Weeks there will be the opportunity to try all of Vienna’s elegant hotel restaurants at a fixed price – and to be surprised by extraordinary menus. Part of it are for example the luxurious The Bank at Park Hyatt, the At Eight at the Hotel The Ring, the fancy Collio at the Hotel Triest or the Marriott Hotel. And the offered additional specials are nice as well: for example at the Kempinski you can use the day spa for free.

Vienna Jewelry Days
The Vienna Jewelry Days really sell themselves short with their name. Because one could truly speak about a festival of modern jewelry art! The talent of the newest designer generation can be explored today at Herbststraße, where the students show a “Best of” of their jewelry designs. Eschi Fiege: Love kitchen
The passionate chef Eschi Fiege has been well known amongst us here in Vienna for quite some time for her private lunch “Mittagstisch” in her apartment at the Naschmarkt. After that resulted in a cookbook for vegetarian dishes, she is now dedicating herself to chosen recipes for 2 in her newest work. Because cooking means turning love into something visible, says the fervent chef. The seductive recipes definitely whet the appetite ;-) By the way, after tonight’s book presentation a few tasty treats from the cookbook will be cooked and ready to try. Lovely!

Madison Violet
When everything is grey during November, we’ll get our fill of the sun through music! And the smoky warm songs of the Canadian folk duo Madison Violet work perfectly for that. Brenley MacEachern and Lisa MacIsaac have been making music together for 17 years and are travelling the world with their songs. And that can be heard as well: their sound is a nice mix of gentle Americana, pithy folk and flirty alternative pop. Instead of polished band-sounds they like to concentrate on the essentials – and it really is a joy to listen to them! Tonight at the Theater Akzent, listen in here.

Bronski & Grünberg
Wow, a new theater! For some reason the Porzellangasse seems to be a good ground for the art of acting. Next to the Schauspielhaus & co a forth theater called “Bronski & Grünberg” will be opening its doors today. Behind it is a dedicated group around Josefstadt-actor Alexander Pschill that already had people talking last year with their snappy and amusing in-house production “Gefährliche Liebschaften” (“dangerous affairs”). And today’s opening will be fairly snappy as well – because a twisted “Dracula” Version is on the agenda, freely interpreted after Bram Stokers vampire melodrama. Get tickets now!

They are basically artistically creative foreign correspondents: 100 Austrian artists who were sent to foreign ateliers in all parts of the world through a scholarship are exhibiting their works in Vienna at the moment. And of course their art is just as different as the places where it was created. Ranging from an installation by Alfredo Barsuglia who is stationed in Rome to photographs from Michael Strasser from London to an intervention by Sylvia Winkler from Salzburg who built a shuttle in Indonesia in order to obtain a higher turnout at the elections. Fascinating!

Mondschein
Whenever designer Gabriele Lechner talks about her label Mondschein it seems like the sun comes up. The creations of the autodidact unite tradition and modernism: she turns both high-quality materials like fine merino loden or traditional Dirndl fabrics into living and fashion accessories and embroiders them with funny words like “Gebäckträger” (“bread carrier”) or “Klumpert” (“junk”).  The only thing that was missing until now in combination with the devotedly created designs was a store. And now the time has come: atelier, sewing workshop and showroom are now united at a new address close to her old atelier. Very nice!

It just recently moved here and already feels like it’s always been there: the Figar in the 4th district.
