"Heya Girls!"
We’ll have to go there just for the location alone! Because new life is breathed into the abandoned rooms of the former Sophienspital during the Take Festival – with works by domestic fashion-creatives and artists. The old hospital becomes the hub of the art & fashion scene. The programme is as versatile as the topic: fashion shows, exhibitions, performances, talks and parties – all that the fashion heart desires! Romana Zöchling presents her project “Home Story: Erni Mangold”, which has the Austrian acting icon wear fashion by Ferrari Zöchling. The entrance hall turns into a pop-up store, which brings together lots of designers from Meshit to Wubet and Eva Blut. And the label Combinege (photo) demonstrates how to put working clothes in the fashion context. Sounds like a powerful load of fashion!

Wishing you a chic week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

 Las Migas
Las Migas
These Spanish ladies really fire up their audience quite a bit. Namely with a new, very feminine flamenco with influences from electronic and folk and a jazzy overtone. The musical quartet Las Migas consists of two guitars, one violin and a Cajon (a kind of sitting drum) and the four fabulous voices of the ladies, obviously. They’ve been traveling around the world with their songs for 15 years, being particularly fond of the South-American continent. That’s also where they get the inspirations for their unusual style. Oh, by the way, Las Migas would be called breadcrumbs in English ;-) Teaser?

Josef Frank: The Pepi Collection
Attention, design aficionada and pattern-queens: the world will be a bit more colourful from today. Because a special collection was designed for Gottfried & Söhne, the shop at the Jewish Museum – with the amazing fabrics by designer Josef Frank. The Vienna-native, who emigrated to Sweden in 1933, would certainly like it: bag, pot, tik-tak and kippah can be purchased from today, a backpack will come soon. And for the presentation in the evening, the museum’s director Danielle Spera and Elisabeth Gottfried will have a surprise in the form of a specially tailored and colourful Pepi robe ;-)

Hemayat Summer Party
This could be a dream come true: who wants to accompany Robert Palfrader to the shooting of the new ORF-series “Walking on Sunshine”? Who’d like to have Robert Menasse read in their own living-room? Who wants to meet Julia Stemberger in the artist’s dressing room? For this, you have to go to Palais Schönburg tonight! They are auctioning off “time donations” by celebrities there at Hemayat’s summer party – in support of traumatised torture victims and war survivors, who receive psychological help from Hemayat. You can join the online bidding here. Plus: live music and maschek presentation!

Karls Day at Karlsplatz
Friday is clearly the best day for city-galivanting. Because the art space Karlsplatz celebrates itself and its cultural institutions with a great programme. So, you can go see all cultural hot spots from Karlskirche to Secession during a seven-hour mega-Karlsplatz tour (joining in anytime is no problem!) and partake in many special guided tours for free, like the Third Man-tour. And in the evening, you may enjoy chilling at the pond while listening to concerts, for instance by Strottern or the melancholic grooves by Paul Plut. Nice!

Afterwork on the farm
Happy Hour is so yesterday. It’s much more fun to end the long working week in a rural idyll, isn’t it? Brought to you by Wiener Landpartien. A bus trip leads to three different farms in and around Vienna. The farmers give a tour through their farms, show and talk about the production of school milk, viticulture and the keeping of Mangalitza pigs and also let you taste their homemade products. Maria Vogt’s organic farm in Obersdorf is particularly nice – that’s where CitySpotterGirl cultivated a self-harvest field for many, many years.

Nightwalk through Kagran
Exploring Kagran at night on foot. Not your classic Friday night programme, is it? The nightly discovery tour starts at the Donauzentrum and leads to squares, parks and buildings with special histories – which are (still) unknown to most people, though. For instance, how was the Bachmann-Park created? By the way, the Nightwalk is only one of more than 80 interesting items on the agenda of the #kommraus initiative that is taking place from Thursday to Sunday in Vienna. You can find more information at the portal. And also: don’t forget to bring a torchlight!

Wieden yard flea market
This will definitely pay off for treasure hunters: for the yearly courtyard flea market, 55 private houses from Wiedner Gürtel to Rechte Wienzeile, so basically the entire 4th district, open their doors again. Here, at the inner courtyards, the residents sell their old treasures from their cupboards and wardrobes and a number of other things. Whether you’re on the hunt for some gem or just want a curious peek behind the facades of the Wieden houses – this is the rare chance for it. And apart from the discovery tour, you also get to have a nice chat with new people.

Glassbeadmaking
Sabine Frank’s glass creations are true works of art. At the LadenKonzept, she lets take a close look over her shoulder during an all-day course where she shows how to make glass beads, breaches, pendants and other implosions made of glass. Included in the course are materials and provisions for the day, plus she will give you a participation certificate. And if you can’t get enough, you might as well book the double package – it’s on to flower murrini the next day. This murrine technique has become known mostly due to the Murano glassblowers.

Vea Kaiser, for instance, presents her new novel “Rückwärtswalzer” at the Café Stadtbahn and Doris Knecht reads from her new novel “weg” at the Schopenhauer. Making Tofu Yourself
To be clear: you don’t have to be vegan to participate here. But maybe you’ll want to be afterwards ;-) The Workshop by Wild und Wunder introduces the art of tofu production. Because you can make tofu yourself in your own kitchen with very simple means! It tastes better, is more economical than the one you buy and doesn’t contain any chemical additives. The produced tofu varieties (like vegan silken tofu mayonnaise, tofu Feta or tofu sweets) are then put to the taste together. Important: bring a little box for the tofu and the leftovers.

Not only is Strandbar Herrmann a great place to chill but also to do something for your body.
Every Sunday, yoga is taking place on the sandy beach at Donaukanal – and that for free! This means you can greet the day with Wake Up Yoga in the fresh air outside and – surrounded by a bit of nature – unwind. At least in good weather. Beginners are just as welcome as advanced folks, just come in comfortable clothes – yoga mats are provided there. The lessons are taught by YogaLounge teachers. Doris Schmidauer
What exactly is our First Lady doing? This is the unique opportunity to find out: the wife of Van der Bellen, Doris Schmidauer, talks to Maria Rauch-Kallat about topics that are important to her. For example, she campaigns for climate protection and women’s rights and supports charity projects like the Caritas campaign #wirtun. Tonight, she will talk about all that, her work as manager and her role as the president’s wife. Afterwards, Schmidauer will also answer audience questions in this almost personal atmosphere of the women’s club Alpha.

Remembrance at Baranka Park
For many centuries, the former Hellerwiese in Favoriten – today’s Belgradplatz with the Baranka Park – was campsite and resting spot for different Roma and Sinti families dealing in carpets, textiles, and horses. Until 70 years ago. Because in autumn 1941, all men, women, and children camping there were deported to concentration camps, where most of them were killed. In remembrance of this, they play music today from 17:00 under the red chestnut tree – with Harri Stojka (after whose grandmother the park was named), Ernst Holden, and Mosa Sisic & band.

Wortfetzen im Waschraum
Art, literature and fashion all at the same time and the whole thing taking place in the washroom of a disused coffin factory? Sounds unusual, is marvellous. The three power-ladies Monika Kaltenecker (publisher), Elli Seeger (block printer) and Maria Fürnkranz-Fielhauer (designer wiener konfektion) have printed texts on textiles for their art project “Wortfetzen”. Das Sanatorium zur Sanduhr
This can also be opera! “Oper unterwegs” stages productions at the most peculiar places in Vienna. The scenes of action – a train, a factory hall or a swimming pool – remain completely unaltered. From today, they are presenting a new play: the almost 100-year-old villa Schapira near Türkenschanzpark will act as a stage for “Das Sanatorium der Sanduhr”. In remembrance of the author Bruno Schulz, who was killed by the Nazis, his novel is brought to the stage with playback music by the acclaimed contemporary (Austrian!) opera composer Olga Neuwirth.

We already know from various fashion magazines that the ethnic look will once again accompany us this summer. Scream yourself free
Women are always well-tempered, loving, understanding and forgiving, aren’t they? But if, by way of exception, you happen to be in a bitch of a mood right now or feel the rage of the angry Medea inside of you, you can let off steam today. Or better letting it all go by screaming. To deal adequately with anger, fury and aggression is a challenge for many women. The reason: convictions and patterns that form in early childhood impact you your whole life and are saved in every body cell. Today, they are resolved with targeted exercises. Grade A help with love sickness, frustration with men and other turbo crises.

Fuckup Night
Courageous entrepreneurs and politicians take to the stage during the globally popular Fuckup Nights to talk about failure and their personal failings. It’s sobering but mostly helpful because: you learn from mistakes (of others). And since crisis management is something the EU knows about only too well, some Brussels experts will tell us some inside stories today. Among them Hugo Brady, former speech writer of President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, and Christian E. Weißgerber, former neo-Nazi, who talks about the formation of right-wing movements.

Iriedaily
When your CitySpotterGirl moved to Berlin in 1994, the German fashion label Iriedaily was just founded there. Now, the Berliners have (finally!) opened their first store in Vienna. The beautiful tile floor immediately catches your eye, but then the cool clothes, too: super nice trousers, T-shirts, button-down-shirts and sweaters made of cotton, inspired by the skater style but still a tad chicer. The jumpsuits with palm tree pattern are perfect for business as well as for a date. And considering that the products are vegan and produced fairly in Portugal, the prices are totally acceptable.

Cafe Telegraph
Bustling, a bit loud and – not surprising, considering the location – mostly students: the Café Telegraph is a really likable venue for all possible circumstances. There used to be a post office here, which means that the international menu fits right in. Especially when it comes to the breakfast, the café presents itself quite worldly: it’s “very British” with baked beans and bacon, Syrniki is a speciality from Ukraine and the funny “canned breakfast” has its origins in Russia. You surely won't miss Shakshuka on the menu! And since the Café is also nicely furnished, you will definitely enjoy hanging out here for a while.
