"Heya Girls!"
"Sustainable Development Goals", or SDG for short – you should make sure to memorise this term. It’s the name of the 17 sustainability goals of the UN, which enable a sustainable ecological, social and economic development of our world. The goals range from climate protection, poverty reduction and sustainable nutrition to education for all. In 2020, the Vienna Volkshochschulen will dedicate themselves to these SDGs throughout the year: each location takes up one of the 17 goals and invites you to explore this topic in workshops, installations and experiments, presentations and exhibitions, lectures, excursions and city walks. There will be 80 events in the spring semester alone! This Saturday at the big kick-off, all locations will offer free try-out sessions at the VHS Simmering. There you can get information about sustainable cooking or try out beekeeping and yogalates. Afterwards there will be a FutureTalk with the activists of Fridays for Future. It's important, ladies!

Wishing you a sustainable week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Lemon Party
So, this week we have something unusual: a lemon party at the design shop! Friday and Saturday the Heimweh in the fourth district presents itself in quite a fruity way. For designer and Heimweh-boss Sonja Ladstätter originally comes from the sunny south and is supplying us with an extra load of vitamin C this week. Friends from the Croatian island of Hvar will bring along untreated, unsprayed, sun-ripened lemons (and honey) – which will then be sold at the Heimweh. Conveniently, matching (kitchen) design accessories can also be purchased there ;-)

Culinaire L’Evrope
The Burgtheater calls its current event series "The Europe Machine" and today the question is: "What does Europe taste like?” The answer is a culinary-literary-musical journey to bilingual Carinthia: texts by regional luminaries such as Maja Haderlap, Handke and Christine Lavant are performed, with a course in between. The menu includes a Kirchtags soup with 36 ingredients, a juicy holiday roast and roast potatoes. By the way, the host is director Martin Kusej himself, Birgit Minichmayr will read, and there will be music by the Carinthian "Talltones".

Marcel Ostertag Designer Sale
"Mommy is my greatest heroine!" The sentence could come from a child's mouth, but it was actually said by the hip Berlin designer and fashion designer Marcel Ostertag. For the new collection, he has drawn on all the inspiration he has had since childhood, and his mother Doris joins Bowie, Grace Jones and Alexander McQueen. Today, he arrives with a cross-section of his collection "Heroes" and gives advice in person! The hearts of the fashionistas melt just as much as the prices: the eye-catching pieces with funny fringes and patchwork patterns are 30% to 70% off. Cool!

An unusual flea market, for a good cause! Monika Buttinger, costume designer for a long list of great films, is once again organising a costume flea market this year with film outfits donated by renowned film companies such as Epo, Allegro and Secondi. And they will be given away today for a donation! With the costumes you can redress yourself in a cool (and unusual) way. Included are outfits by Sibel Kekilli, plus Adele Neuhauser, Katharina Strasser and Elyas M 'Barek. A large selection of those can currently be found on sale in Gertraud Buxhofer’s shop! Until mid-February, they sell off discontinued models and remaining stock, all exclusively produced in Europe and with special attention to wearing comfort, by the way. Dota
Dota Kehr used to be called “Kleingeldprinzessin”, these days she’s the frontwoman of the band Dota and will play in a great line-up today: with her she has two guest musicians from Austria. The whole thing sounds a bit like German pop à la Namika, and Dota is also compared with Joni Mitchell sometimes. As soft as the music may sound, the content is about heavy themes like world politics, sexism or borders. This will be an evening with a special singer-songwriter who will be remembered for a long time for her soulful lyrics. You can listen in here.

Julian Rachlin & Sarah McElravy
Drool! He conducts, she soloes: Julian Rachlin will appear today on the stage of the Great Hall of the Konzerthaus together with his wife Sarah McElravy: The outrageously attractive violin couple will play Mozart's heavenly Sinfonia concertante for violin, viola and orchestra. It really warms the heart! The star conductor was born in Lithuania, by the way, but has been living in Vienna since 1978. As a professional musician, he is on the road for around 300 days a year and can look back on a career that has lasted for over 30 years... And he is only 45 years old!

Love Notes Pop-up
Well, ladies. So first of all, Valentine's Day is coming up and secondly, 2020 is all about self-love! That's what the young artist Alexandra Warlits is all about, who is throwing a party of self-love with her "Love Notes" today. And that's why she's opening a pop-up in the sous-bois café. From today (and all of February) her collage-mixed-art cards are available for purchase, which is celebrated with little treats! By the way, the cards are very noble, with a peephole ticket, behind which the illustrations are visible. Kind of makes you want to write a love letter to yourself ;-)

Permaculture Workshop
These are wild times we live in. Global dynamics such as climate change present us with major challenges. But each of us can do something. Today's Permaculture Workshop is aimed at people with a garden, balcony or flower box. Permaculture, originally developed for agriculture, offers some good solutions for food production and puts biological cycles, systemic understanding and ethical responsibility at the centre of design. Valerie Seitz from the association Permaculture Austria will tell us how the good life for all can succeed.

Heile Mich
A night at the theatre with the aktionstheater means: it will get intense. Martin Gruber's productions are veeery popular, so anyone who wants to see "Heile mich" has to be fast. "Heile Mich" (Heal me) alludes to the great rescue that will never come anyway. It's about the inner conflict and the question "When will we all finally be well again?" There is also tender rock music from Dun Field Three, a band you’ll have to keep an eye on. The play once had 2000 pages and was shaped down to one hour ten minutes. This is theatre with depth!

Mmmm, does it smell good here! And as befits the current winter season everything looks wonderfully cuddly. The Villgrater Natur products come from the East Tyrolean mountains – and you can truly see the healthy mountain air in them. Just like the sheep that bleat…uh, peep merrily from the walls. Their wool is mainly what it's all about here: knitting wool in winter colours and light woollen blankets, warm slippers and insoles, felt seat cushions and sheep's milk cosmetics are sold. You can also try out the natural bed system while counting the sheep on the walls ;-)
