"Heya Girls!"
“I'm not a kitchen” Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky kept saying, annoyed that she was often reduced to her most fundamental work: the invention of the fitted kitchen. Born in Vienna in 1897, she was a pioneer. She was one of the first women in Austria to practice the profession of architect. She designed “Tiny Houses”, mini houses for poor people on the outskirts of Vienna. As early as the late 1920s, she conceived of apartments for single, working women – and designed the functional “Frankfurt Kitchen” in this context. And in the resistance against the Nazis, Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky risked her life and narrowly escaped execution. After the war, the architect also incorporated her progressive living concepts into her own apartment – and it has now been largely renovated to its original condition and is now open to the public as a museum! The 55-square-meter apartment with a roof garden in Margareten is a showroom and also a center for research on the history of local women architects. Above all, however, it is the vivid memory of a great woman!

Monika Buttinger „Corsage“
Right up front: This is an opportunity that you must seize! Because anyone who has seen at least the trailer for the new Sisi film “Corsage” knows that the costumes are a hit. No wonder, really, because they were created by Austria's best costume designer Monika Buttinger – and it's she who's sharing secrets today. Together with her assistant Alexandra Trimmel, she will explain after today's screening of “Corsage” how the corset that gives the film its title came into being. Extra nice: You can also ask her questions – great opportunity for all film-loving fashion aficionados!

 Valiente
Valiente
First your foot bounces, then your shoulders roll and yes, at some point you just can't sit still anymore. The lively Viennese with Argentinian roots knows how to fire up the crowd, and for that, Valiente might mix an Elvis classic with fiery bachata beats, for instance. The melodic result has an astonishing amount of charm and is sung by the singer in pin-up look with witty lyrics about clichés and prejudices. Today she presents her new album “Latina”, which was recorded in four languages and contains ten songs – five original tracks and five Latino cover versions of oldie hits!

Treehaus
A daily midnight goulash, caketails (= cocktail cakes) and espresso martinis from the tap – bar luminaries Kenan Koc and Daniel Schober have treated themselves to a new playground. In the former Café Extrablatt, the two are introducing the Treehaus today with a soft opening. In addition to classic drinks, the “Cocktail Playground” offers a considerable range of its own cocktail creations and home-made syrups, liqueurs and bitters. Beef tartar, ceviche and pasta provide the tasty base. Oh, and in the middle of the bar, there’s a walnut tree growing over the 10-meter counter.

Flüsterzweieck
An ode to loneliness. A lockdown of heroism. A deconstruction of the avocado. A crisis in the climate of conspiracy. A rush of words of love. A western of anxiousness. A dump of humanity. A slaughter of intolerability. A cultivation of madness. The new cabaret piece by Ulrike Haidacher and Antonia Stabinger works a bit like vitamin D in this grey autumn weather. With subtle comedy, skillful linguistic wit and acting finesse, they get the happiness hormones going. Can be seen tonight at the Theater am Alsergrund!

 Schubert Gallery
Schubert Gallery Pop-up
Carina Schubert likes it colourful. Anyone who has taken a look at her Schubert Gallery will know that. It’s in the old warehouse of the family-owned Schubert Stone company, where you can now shop for Carina's emotional landscapes and faces, ranging from harmonious pastel to bold and gaudy. Artist Sophie Tschannett provides equally colorful refreshments with her feminist and regionally brewed Muschicraft beer. Part of the proceeds go to the Autonome Österreichische Frauenhäuser. You can hardly toast with a better conscience.

 Langer Tag der Flucht
Long Day of Refugees
Still a current topic, unfortunately, because with the war in Ukraine, the topic of fleeing has again painfully moved into the general consciousness in Europe. On today's Long Day of Refugees, everyone can deal with the topic of fleeing and asylum and learn more about it at numerous free events. At the “living books” in the main library, 25 people will be on hand who have either had to flee themselves or are active in the field of asylum. At the Weltmuseum, the famous Afghan kites will be made, and an intercultural Photo Walk will take place on the Danube Canal.

In addition to drinks and music, the first 50 customers will receive a well-filled goodie bag.  Queen of Sand
Queen of Sand
Irina Titova's paintings really do leave a lasting impression, even though (or perhaps because) they are so fleeting. With sand alone, which she lets trickle through her fingers, the Queen of Sand creates entire works of art. In her new show “Around the World in 80 Pictures”, her sandy protagonists travel around the globe. The story is told by the famous dubbing artist Joachim Kerzel, who has also lent his voice to cinema stars such as Robert De Niro. During the show, you can enjoy a 3-course menu – definitely a nice opportunity to enjoy the magic of the moment.

Harvest Festival at WeltTellerFeld
The big issues of the future are addressed in a small field: sustainable consumption and production, one of the 12 Sustainable Development Goals. In the WeltTellerFeld, the complex interrelationships of the global food system become visible and tangible. The project illustrates questions such as: How much land do we need for our food? Is there enough left over for the others? What impact does our food have on the climate? At the Harvest Festival today, you can take part in cooking workshops in the food trailer, help with the potato harvest, sow crops and experience guided tours.

 Gerstner
Gerstner Brunch
Sometimes breakfast alone is not enough. It has to be the best of two meals. And if you want to feel a bit feudal at the same time, you’ll have to go to Gerstner in the Palais Tedesco. In the gorgeously old-fashioned café, deluxe petit fours are waiting to be devoured at the starter buffet, followed by the main course, dessert and unlimited amounts of champagne. The highlight, however, is undoubtedly the sweet showcase, where little extravagances such as sparkling champagne tartlets or elegant Dobo cakes make eyes at you. Well, it’s not like you treat yourself to anything else ;-)

Germany's Divas
Marlene Dietrich, Zarah Leander, Hildegard Knef – they are Germany's most famous chanteuses of the 1930s and 1940s. The artist Anita Eberwein has interwoven the stories of the three stars. In her solo program, the mezzo-soprano sings her way through raining red roses, is all about love from head to toe, and asks herself: why shouldn't a woman have a love affair? In between the iconic songs of the three amazing women, Eberwein recounts their turbulent history – interwoven with original quotes from the divas. Very snazzy!

“Auf Wiedersehen, Kinder!”
It was an adventurous life: it's very impressive how Ernst Papanek gave hundreds of Jewish refugee children a home in shelters near Paris more than 80 years ago and saved not only their lives but also their souls with his revolutionary reform pedagogy. CitySpotterGirl's daughter Lilly Maier, by now an author and historian, has created an impressive memorial to the forgotten Viennese and will be reading from her work today. An immensely optimistic book that shows that with courage, dignity and love you can totally “just go save the world” after all!

Herbarium Sandleiten
Council housing and nature. If they were a couple, it would sound like a marital crisis. But the exhibition “Communi-*Tea/Herbarium Sandleiten” by Soho Studios Ottakring proves that even around the largest municipal housing complex Sandleiten there is lots of green. Since February, the diversity of local urban nature has been explored here and the finds processed in a culinary way. Like a tea made from plant varieties that bloom on Matteottiplatz. In keeping with the theme, Amur Wien has a Herbathek. It shows what happens to local greens when they are preserved. Vernissage is today!

Pippa
When she left the Musikgymnasium at the age of 16, she received the verdict of “little talent”. Pippa now gives her feedback on this in her latest song “Egal” (never mind). Today, the singer and actress is anything but a newcomer, but she still captivates audiences with her musical mosaic of pop, rock, hip-hop, chanson and Neue Deutsche Welle. Something new is the penchant for electro sounds. A groovy addition to her cool vocals with socio-critical punchlines, which can be heard today at the Konzerthaus – including some new material from her EP to be released in 2023!

Europe’s Best Buildings
Once again a beautiful exhibition for friends of architecture! Every two years, the Mies van der Rohe Award honors Europe's most innovative architectural projects. This time, for the first time, an educational building emerged as the winner from the over 500 nominated objects, the Town House of Kingston University in London, which was designed by Grafton Architects. In the exhibition, a total of 40 of the nominated buildings from all over Europe are presented by means of plans, photos, videos, models and 1:1 construction elements. Also on display: the five Austrian projects that were submitted.

Basquiat. Of Symbols and Signs
It is without a doubt the must-see of the museum season. The figurehead of “Black Art” has his first comprehensive retrospective in Austria. On the basis of 50 works, you can follow Basquiat's meteoric career in pictures, always including typical motifs from advertising, pop culture and social politics. You feel transported back to the pulsating New York of the 1980s and are mentally involved in the wild nights full of coke, jazz and sex. The exhibition provides new insights into the world of the eccentric with classics such as “La Hara” and some pieces that have never been shown before – sensational!

Project
Even after hundreds of “Shops of the Week”, there are still some that are surprising. The Vintage Fashion Store by Hanna Teglasy and Rayk Noah Schlotterer is one of them. First wow moment: tiny entrance – huge shop! Second sensation: no junk! The shop is furnished in a designy boutique style, the second-hand pieces (most of them by Hanna herself) are like new and, above all, affordable. Besides clothes, there's also new art here every month, and this Saturday, designer Brandan Josh will be visiting to present his upcycled second-hand creations. Recommended!

Don't be surprised if you can't tell what this place is from the outside, despite the huge windows. After entering, you think you're in a cool New York gallery. But no, this is a Dessert.Boutique – and definitely the most unusual one in Vienna. A few select pieces of furniture, white walls several metres high and a few mini-cakes on a kind of bar that look just as modern as the restaurant: a cake master and an architect have joined forces here. The sweet works of art taste terrific! Yes, they have their price, but how often do you get the chance to eat in a New York gallery?
