"Heya Girls!"
When 1,000 wooden boards serve as wobbly ground for a performance and when, as of now, there’s daily dancing for 365 days from 10:00 to 18:00 in a shop in Neustiftgasse – then we know: the Tanzquartier is back! With a freshly renovated house, as many as two powerful women in the lead - Bettina Kogler and Christa Spatt – and an amazing highlight-opening-program. From 25 to 27 January, you can choose from a variety of exceptional performances and dancing gems – many of which are free! The first one, for instance, is the dynamic wheelchair- and crutch dance piece “Every Body Electric” by Doris Uhlich. Or the quirky dream-music-journey of the London-native and radical body artist Franco B, which catapults you back to your (childlike) easiness. And for the farewell party, there’s the finest feminist pop with Ankathie Koi (photo). Welcome back!

Wishing you a skipping week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Carla Popup Vintage clothing sale
That’s how you do second-hand fashion sale: in order that searchers don’t have to rummage through everything to find the best fashion finds in the two big Caritas warehouses, a professional “sorter” has taken over. All vintage “Top of the tops” can now be purchased at the first Carla PopUp, a visit there will definitely pay off: tons of pieces are waiting for you, from a Marc Cain skirt to (now trendy again) Kappa belt bags, cute floral dresses, cool vintage belts, bags, or jewellery. And there’s even some welcome-Prosecco for relaxed shopping ;-)

DelaDap at Szene Wien
Today, as many as three cool bands rock the Szene Wien – and with free entry, no less! All because the start of a brand-new concert series for world music is being celebrated together with DelaDap, Gewürztraminer, and Belofour. The kick-off is tonight! CitySpotterGirl has a tiny crush on DelaDap-musician Stani Vana (not least because of his slightly diffident hairdo), but of course the main reason for going there and getting your groove on are the clubby pop-songs and folk-jazz songs of this combo. Gewürztraminer will be all Balkan-gypsy, Belafour more accordion-alpine.

Elke Freytag: New Year’s clean-out-Sale
For CitySpotterGirl’s current exhibition “Paper Passion” (still on until 30 January at Gallery Vote!), fashion designer Elke Freytag has made an exception, creating her clothes in mini-format and made of paper for a change. But of course, at the end of the day, you prefer the real and normal-sized Freytag-fashion wear ;-) And they are on sale as of right now! Among them cool individual pieces from the current autumn-winter collection for -30%, intriguing quilted & patterned skirts, sexy mini-dresses, tops and coats (a lot of black but also colourful ones). A Treasure Trove of Knowledge
It is one of the oldest (and most relevant!) libraries in the world – and this year it celebrates its 650th jubilee. The finishing of Johannes von Troppau’s gold-lettered Gospel Book in 1368 marks the beginning of the Austrian National Library’s history. Starting today, the magnificent manuscript can be seen at the big jubilee exhibition, together with 170 other objects. And the things you’ll get to see are truly sensational: Mozart’s Requiem, the famous Gutenberg Bible, the ancient road map Tabula Peutingeriana! Attention: some of the treasures are so delicate they are always exhibited for a short time only!

>Raumstation & Naked-exhibition
Starting today, the Galerie-Freihaus quarter has gained another art hotspot. The really spacey concept room is called Raumstation (space station) and wants to burst all artistic limits in the future. They certainly succeeded in that architecturally – with the utopic mirror hall and the chic white cube atmosphere. And the premiere-exhibition “Naked”, too, fits perfectly into the concept on the topic of space with selected installations and performance acts. With: “object piler” Elisabeth Grübl, “space dramaturg duo” hoelb/hoeb and culture performer Gerald Straub.

If you want to break out from the well-trodden museum paths for a change, you could make a detour to Domgasse in the first district. There, you’ll find the Mozarthaus, which hosts an Open House as celebration of the exceptional composer’s birthday today. On the program are an exciting guided tour through the exhibition (from 10:00 on every 2 hours), Mozart-concerts in their Bösendorfersaal (from 17:00) and – particularly cool – join-in workshops. Ladies should absolutely not miss “Dancing like at Mozart’s time” (11 and 15:00). Free entry everywhere!

This is something for night owls! In the halls of Ottakringer brewery, the Wiener Nachtflohmarkt (nighty flea market) is taking place again, inviting you to shop, bargain-hunt and party. This is worth missing your beauty sleep for once ;-) There is a varied mixture of personal attic-finds, records, furniture and all kinds of knick-knacks to rummage through. But there is also a selection of the finest young designer & artist articles. Plus, from 18:00 you can relax during a Grinberg-neck massage (voluntary donation). Hipster relaxation meets attic-party. The Mind-Reading Revolution
Do we believe this now? Are phenomena like mind-reading or divination really possible? Or is it all just an illusion and totally explainable? Tonight, Europe’s best mental magicians Anca & Lucca want to prove that it all really works. In their theatre show, the two European champions and vice-World champions tell us the secrets of mental magic, yet still leave us all filled with speechless wonder. And there’s no tricks! Allegedly. The audience can come onto the stage and look closely over their shoulders. So: in the mood for some magic?

Why not go for some culinary-atmospheric extravagance every now and then?! For instance at the classy Afternoon Tea in the magnificent setting of Palais Coburg. There, a lady can’t just taste aromatic tea specialities from Superior Oolong to Silver Pi Lo Chun and tasty scones, sandwiches, and sweets, but also soak up pure luxury. For example, during the promenade through the marbled column hall or while striding along under heavy crystal chandeliers and golden stucco. Live piano music’s playing too. Pub flea market „Neu Brasilien“
Adieu to the old, ahoy to the new – that’s what’s happening at the former Gasthaus “Neu-Brasilien” on the Old Danube. It has recently been taken over by the Querfeld family (yes, the one with the delicious Landtmann cakes) and will, from May on, provide some culinary Danube-wavey fun with its new name “Das Bootshaus” and a maritime concept. But first, they need to renovate which explains the huge flea market today! Everything needs to go: from old tableware (glasses, cutlery, plates & co) to the furnishings to treasure like an ironing machine. For refreshments, there’s fine pastries ;-)

Fred Astaire night
We’re sticking with the dance theme! Today it’s off to the colourful evening with a lecture about Fred Astaire’s life and work at the Jewish Museum Vienna. There you will learn all kinds of funny anecdotes and things worth knowing about the famous entertainer by the owners of the Vienna Dependance of the worldwide Fred Astaire-Dance Studio empire (170 branches). For example that his father was from Linz (really!) and is thus responsible for Astaire’s Austrian-Jewish roots. Plus, everyone will receive a – free! – CD “Puttin‘ On The Ritz” with new interpretations of Astaire’s hits.

Meditation: At full throttle into 2018
Perhaps the dynamic title of this meditation event will also attract people who are apprehensive of too much silence. In any case, newbies are invited to calm their minds and to attune themselves to the New Year. With her calming voice, Elisabeth Kafesie leads participants through two meditations: the first one is about solving blockages and figuring out where you are getting in your own way. After a short break, the second meditation provides a chance to mentally recharge your batteries for 2018 and fill up the New Year with positive energy. Can’t hurt!

Labyrinths in Europe
Cultural mediator Tina Zickler is known for unusual projects. 2014, she drew attention to the  Schwadron brothers’ tiles, 2017 she was the curator of the exhibition “handWERK” at MAK. Now for April 2018, she is planning to turn Schwarzenbergplatz into a walk-in labyrinth made of plants. A 310 meter-long path invites you to wander in search of (your) centre. You will also get to see other prominent European labyrinths. Ingenius! Today, the project plus crowd funding campaign is introduced at Galerie Kargl. Go, join in, every euro counts!

Titanic
Actually, everything was completely different! On the occasion of the Hollywood blockbuster’s 20th anniversary and more than 100 years after the biggest disaster in maritime history, the dramatic story of what really happened on board of the Titanic is now being told in an original, cutting, and socio-critical way at Bronski & Grünberg Theater. While Rose, who was a young passenger back then and is now very old, is waiting for her big TV interview, she reveals her story. And well, if you’re thinking about the film with Leonardo DiCaprio now: her encounter with Jake actually wasn’t all that romantic, either ;-)

Sonnengrün
Plastic is evil – that is a fact. Especially in the bathroom, there is usually one plastic bottle after another, plus many cosmetic products contain micro-plastic. To counter this insanity, Elisabeth Sonnleithner focuses on plastic-free, organic natural cosmetics and household items in her little shop – concerning both packaging and content. Shampoo is solid and soap-like here, the deodorants are creamy and in pretty tins, all-purpose-cleaner is filled into organic plastic bottles made of cornstarch right in the shop and there are kitchen rolls made of washable bamboo. Nice products and good rethinking inspiration!

Elissar
The Lebanese cuisine is said to be the best one in the Middle East – if you want to verify that, you now have the chance to do so in Vienna in the chic restaurant Elissar with its subtle Oriental touch (I love those tiles!). You are probably familiar with tabouleh, hummus and falafel but baba ghanough, maanek and libanese “pizza” is where the culinary adventures start. Best to go there as a group, order several small dishes and taste everything in this tasty cosmos. By the way, the venue is named after the smart heroine and queen Elissar, who founded Carthage. One more reason to go there ;-)
