"Heya Girls!"
My lovelies, it was about time! More than 400 editions ago I started sending you your favorite newsletter every week with a different “wallpaper”, always designed by international graphic artists. So it is probably well known that I love patterns ;-) And that is why the time to dedicate a very own book only to patterns has finally come! From now on you can buy my new favorite book at very bookstore and also at the webshop: “Das Wiener Musterbuch” (“The Viennese Book of Patterns”) from the CitySpotterGirl includes 150 motives ranging from art nouveau ornaments to the panda bears in Schönbrunn to Biedermeier flowers and modern designs. And every single page is detachable! What can you do with them? Wrap presents, fold origami, create invitations, beautify your home, glue together collages, bind books, make decorations, use them for DIY-projects, wrap lampshades, organize arts and crafts parties – and about 1000 other things! Ingenious appetizers
I’m just going to mention strudel dough bowls with a zucchini filling, sheep milk cheese terrine, spinach salad with squid and chorizo and many more. And those of you who are already drowning of hunger, can trustfully hand themselves over to the care of head chef and cookbook author Martina Lessing. Today, she invites guests to her private hideaway for a cooking course. Cine Latino Festival
Big cinema from Mexico to Tierra del Fuego: at the Cine Latino Festival around 20 selected fictional films and documentaries from South America will be presented, some of them premiering in Austria. The festival opens today with the great Argentinian comedy “El ciudadano ilustre” (“The Distinguished Citizen”). Other festival highlights are the empathetic tale of coming out called “Rara” from Chile, the Colombian political western “Pariente” or the Brazilian Goya winner and Viennale-audience favorite “Aquarius” – with the wonderful Sonia Braga in the lead role.

Dominique Horwitz sings Jacques Brel
Two exciting men, today at the Musikverein – one of them will be singing, the other will be sung ;-) Actor and singer Dominique Horwitz (who was, by the way, born in Paris) has been devoting himself to the work of the legendary French-speaking chansonnier Jacques Brel for more than 30 years. And every time he sings the chansons, he discovers something new, so he says. It even rang out of the usually very strict group of critics that Horwitz sings the songs better than Brel himself did. The Brel-program will be accompanied by compositions from Chick Corea, Cole Porter and Astor Piazzolla.

Spring market Creau
What was already pretty cool during the winter is now even cooler thanks to spring. The Krieau as the new event location Creau is opening its doors once again for a market. Just like during the winter Austrian and international design labels will be moving into the former horse stables, in every horsebox there is something cool, something handmade or something original to be discovered. Detailed clutches from Saborka, Korean Arion Jewelry or colorful Ticket To The Moon-hammocks to chill out in at home. And thanks to the spring, the courtyard will be filled with food trucks and DJ-sounds. Awesome!

FAINA Big Label Opening
Whenever young jewelry artist Faina Willenig talks about “damn hot jewelry”, she is not only referring to her unusual unisex-jewelry collection. Because the production of the colorful (and pleasantly light) pieces is a hot event as well. Faina creates them with the help of heat on plastic platters, which you would usually expect to find in shop windows providing a wall-effect. Tonight at the Aux Gazelles she is presenting eye-catching earrings, bracelets, colliers and avant-gardist body accessories form her new label for the very first time. Additionally to the hot jewelry, there will be hot music, bling bling shopping until midnight!

200 years Bookstore Leo
Small but mighty and the right place for book-lovers for the last 200 years: the time-honored bookstore Leo, which is now run by the sisters Susanne and Ulla Remmer, is celebrating its anniversary with a reading festival, including a bookbinding workshop and open house. It starts this afternoon; readers are, among others, Houchang Allahyari, who describes his experiences as a psychiatrist and filmmaker in “Being normal is not easy”. The evening will be funny: ORF-voice Paul Kraker will present news from the satirical newspaper “Die Tagespresse”. Attention: readings at the Alpenverein!

A very dense weekend-schedule for art-lovers! In Währing you can visit around 120 artists at their ateliers, galleries or workshops in the course of the artwalk18. The creative offer is quite broad ranging from photography and painting to sculpting and arts and crafts. Readings, workshops and concerts provide for good vibrations while you’re walking around. And since you are already in the neighborhood: at the Aumannplatz a nice flea market is happening today! Even more art can be discovered in the 2nd and 20th district at the Q202 studio tour, where you can check out 60 creativity spots.

Forward Festival
Well, participation is not really cheap, but there will definitely be something to see: at the Forward Festival at the MAK some of the world’s best representatives of design, creativity and communication will be present. At today’s conference, the centerpiece of the festival, they will be talking about personal insights and success stories. Part of the speakers: Paola Antonelli, chief curator at the Museum of Modern Art New York, the d esign heroes Erik Spiekermann and Eike König and also media phenomenon Friedrich Liechtenstein. Even more high-level inspiration can be obtained through workshops, live art sessions and films.

Clothing and language exchange
The more colorful and diverse, the better! And today’s clothing exchange will also be serving as a platform for intercultural networking. Because the whole thing is being organized by the initiative “Deutsch ohne Grenzen” (“German without borders”), which supports refugees with language classes and other activities. And that is why you can’t only exchange clothes but also languages! For every piece of clothing you bring you get an express course in different languages. A skirt in exchange for Farsi, so to say ;-) Whoever doesn’t have a lot to swap, can gain swap-vouchers through a musical contribution at the culture table.

Vintage fashion, watches, porcelain, books, bags, household goods, curious pieces from past times, fluffy jewelry from Mona Moore and a huge selection of arts and crafts – well, just “Kunst & Kram” (“art & stuff”)! The legendary flea market at the Bunkerei in the Augarten, the perfect place for hunters and collectors with their sights set on original pieces, will be taking place in April this year. Rotraud A. Perner
Sexual reformation – whatever that means will be explained today by lawyer, psychoanalyst and evangelical theologian Rotraud A. Perner at Club Alpha. In her new book the author wrote about everything that happened after the sexual revolution, about dealing with freedom and responsibility. In the book the therapist takes on a new perspective of Christian sexual ethics and the relationship between genders on the basis of relevant bible passages. You want an example? “Be fruitful and multiply” could just as well mean “Be creative and support one another”. Already sounds a lot better!

“Es ist was es ist. Lovepoems of Erich Fried“
What is love? What is love in times of war? What is being human without love? The poetry from Erich Fried asks these questions in a thrillingly simple and direct way and hits us right in the heart with it. Composer Joe Pinkl set a whole range of Fried-poems to music and through it he discovers nuances and shades of the texts in a very subtle way and he makes them audible and interweaves text and music to form a new whole. Shlomit Butbul (Jazz-Gitti’s daughter!) is giving her voice and expression to the extraordinary poem-intonations at the Odeon. Only until today!

Academy: Bank for the Common Good
Yes, money rules the world. But there is a way – unlike the non-transparent commercial bank conglomerates – to do so ethically correct and people-oriented! The “Bank for the Common Good” was founded in 2010 and puts common good above all profit maximization, but also takes care of savings, loans and payment transactions. Today an academy opens as well, where you can attend lectures, talks and symposiums on transparent and ethical banking. At the opening today WU-professor Bettina Fuhrmann will be talking about “Empowerment through knowledge”. An important plea for more financial know-how!

At the Art VHS a new exhibition is presented, including all the exciting things that students of the kunst.schule (art school) Vienna produced in eight different workshops. You can see works from any kind of available artistic style, ranging from sculpting to design & space all the way to ceramics, painting – and of course, also really cool comics. Animations and experimental films will be presented as well, just as performances and works that were created around this year’s topic “Resistance and Civil courage”. Vernissage is today!

It can be accessed through the courtyard entry at Laudongasse and is open all year long every Tuesday night. And since there will be (hopefully) warmer spring nights soon, the must celebrations are being moved to the Museum’s courtyard. Even though he was born in Vienna, fashionistas should definitely use this opportunity in order to get a live view of the fashion pieces from Arthur Arbesser. Because usually, the design star is working somewhere abroad, after finishing his degree in London he spent his years of study at Armani in Milan, 2013 he launched his very own label. Now he flew his spring/summer collection exclusively to Vienna, a collection that reminds us of Europe around the turn of the century. With bold colors and peppy patterns, the dresses and sailor jackets do not look like yesterday at all, but super hip. Only until Saturday!

Just moved in and already changed the concept – but flexibility is never wrong, especially in the world of fashion ;-) Designer Lisa Losch launched her store in October with “brand & second hand”, but now the clean-white shop is wholly back in the hands of new Austrian labels. The owner’s trademark consists of extravagant overalls, next to her very own pieces the avant-gardist creations from Katrin Mayer and ZOU are available at the moment as well. Up to ten brands are supposed to be added in the future, there is lots of creating and producing going on at the attached atelier. Stylish & fresh!

Heunisch und Erben
They are still in the soft-opening phase, but even just that is very promising! It’s no surprise that when the Pub Klemo with its wonderful wine shop, sommelier Markus Gould and chef Peter Zinter (former chef of Charly P’s and The Brickmakers) are shacking up – it results in a wine bar with an impressive selections of wines, a striking ceiling height and simply delicious food. Not the cheapest place, but the cool-elegant direction fits the beautiful atmosphere. The menu is still fairly small – but the golden trout and the desert Gebackene Mäuse (yeah, childhood memories!) were definitely a hit!
