"Heya Girls!"
Now this is a bit inconvenient: The press conference on the “Oster-Ruhe” in Vienna (translation: lockdown) will take place when your favourite newsletter has already been sent out. But I'll put it this way: we've become as flexible as rubber bands by now. So always check whether the tips and events in this issue are actually taking place, then we will successfully muddle through this week as well. And the best thing is to accept help. Because Easter is approaching and with it the holiday stress – which we skilfully avoid this year. Don't feel like cooking on the weekend? The Seven North is once again offering its ingenious food boxes for pick-up: Mediterranean spring cuisine by celebrity chef Eyal Shani. The Hidden Kitchen is packing its city-famous picnic baskets for Holy Saturday. You can laze around in bed because the Easter brunch basket will be delivered, bouquet included. The hotel Sans Souci also supports the Easter bunny, the Easter box comes with a 4-course menu and wine. You just have to order from all of them in time!

Wishing you a colourful week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

P.S. CitySpotterGirl takes a one-week Easter break and will return on 8 April.

Lylit: Rosa Luxemburg
Many people know Rosa Luxemburg as a revolutionary and a communist. What is less known is the fact that she was Lenin's harshest critic, a talented poet and a pacifist. On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of her birth, a quartet led by soul singer Eva Klampfer alias Lylit is giving a musical history lesson today: vocals, violin and piano trace Luxemburg's life and bring to life the states of mind of the ardent socialist. Particularly exciting: Luxemburg herself has her say, as documents, articles and letters from her years in prison have been packaged into songs, telling her life as music.

Klimt: Lady with Fan
It’s Gustav Klimt's last almost completed painting: Only a few details are missing in “Lady with Fan”, a self-confident portrait of a woman. From today – and only free on the opening day – it’s on display in the special exhibition “Lady with Fan. Gustav Klimt's Last Works” at the Upper Belvedere. This means that the painting hangs on loan in Vienna again for the first time in 100 years! The colourful lady (presumably a dancer) belongs to one of Klimt's favourite subjects: the “beautiful” Viennese woman. His unfinished work “The Bride”, which hardly anyone knows, is also on display.

Albertina: City and Landscape
The Albertina starts the spring season today with a major exhibition: “City and Landscape. Between Dream and Reality” presents landscape painting from the Renaissance to modern times. In the panorama of over 200 works, you walk from Innsbruck as Albrecht Dürer saw it to Egon Schiele's view of old houses in Krumau. Idyllic watercolours by Emil Nolde stand in stark contrast to Alfred Kubin's gloomy visions of horror, and at the end of the works spanning five centuries is Paul Klee's reinvention of nature. A wonderful overview of many great masters!

SumSum
You can hardly use a lockdown more sensibly: As a copywriter for the luxury mail-order company “Net-a-Porter”, Franziska Sumberaz from Carinthia was stuck in London in 2020. To brighten the grey time, she started knotting colourful pearl ribbons – just one year later, the brand “SumSum” was founded and her own pop-up shop opened: For the next 6 months, she will be making bracelets, necklaces and chokers with floral motifs in Operngasse. Always made of freshwater pearls and Japanese glass beads. Her inspiration: the 90s and the bohemia. Sumberaz also makes individual models.

Earth Hour „Lights Off”
Do quickly stock up on candles! From 20:30 to 21:30, it's lights out! The WWF is once again calling for participation in the world's biggest climate protection campaign. And because, with the exception of some old-school politicians, every child has realised that global warming, glacial retreat and the like can't go on any longer, we will be setting an example together today and save energy. In Vienna, in addition to private homes, many landmarks such as Schönbrunn Palace, the Rathaus, the Hofburg and the Belvedere remain dark. Around the world, the lights go out.

Napoleon Spring Market
Mother Hulda spoiled the first market weekend by sending a snow shower, but this time, according to the weatherman, it’ll work out! The Napoleon in Kagran is opening a pop-up spring market in the garden with over 20 stalls, arts and crafts and regional take-away delicacies. Fresh food is provided by Obsthaus Haller, and Carola Weiß brings bling-bling with her filigree earrings and geometric finger jewellery. Sylvia Villani has handmade cushions inspired by nature, literature, works of art and museums, so that the decorative spring can also move into your home.

Once the poor man's vegetable, radicchio has now risen to become a chic food item – and it can be more than just bitter. Vienna-based Italian chef Bruno Ciccaglione shows how to do it in his new book. The presentation on Zoom gives a free insight: he has compiled a lot of interesting facts about the winter vegetable and recipes for Italian classics – radicchio with risotto, as a side dish with fish and meat or roasted on the grill. Gartenbaukino: Back to the Future
The Gartenbaukino is like a time machine inside which the glamour of the 1960s can still be felt. But listed cinema culture also needs to be preserved, and a crowdfunding campaign on Startnext is now to raise the last 150,000 euros: true to the motto “Back to the Future”, the retro shine will be refurbished and disimprovements from the 1980s will be restored to the original design: cineastes can support this by booking private film screenings, an exclusive matinee or a very personal greeting message shining on the illuminated board. Come on, let's save our iconic cinema!

Hiking with alpacas
There's hardly anything more relaxing (and entertaining) than hiking with alpacas. Which is why CitySpotterGirl regularly travels to the countryside to roam through the forest with the super-cuddly soft grinners. But today you don't have to leave the city: In the windbreaks of the Seestadt, XundZeit organises a decelerated walk with the fluffy animals. You can take a deep breath, recharge your batteries and understand why the softest jumpers in the world are made from alpaca fur after shearing. And there's even a picnic afterwards – all corona-compliant at a safe distance!

 Jonathan Meese
Jonathan Meese and Erwin Wurm
The luxury residential project “The Ambassy” is not yet finished, but as of today the brick shell has top-class interim tenants: An exhibition at the building site shows celebrated works by Jonathan Meese and Erwin Wurm, the superstar among Austria's artists. The theme of the show is the pandemic year: in One Minute Sculptures, Wurm humorously shows how gestures have been reduced to absurdity. Painter Jonathan Meese (currently also on show at Galerie Krinzinger) takes a playful approach. And between the works, the Chinese artist Xue Mu works live on charcoal drawings.

 Brigitte Riedl
Porcelain Pop-up 2.0
Even if the Easter market in front of Schönbrunn Palace cannot take place: The Easter Bunny will surely come - carefully and on disinfected velvet paws ;-) That's why porcelain painter Brigitte Riedl has rented her own shop (as she did at Christmas) as an alternative to the market. For a short time only, she sells fine porcelain there, which she paints with loving motifs. For the catkin, there are pendants in the shape of bells and eggs with little ladybirds and bees. Easter bunny figures throw themselves into funny poses, wear bows and are painted in the classic white or colourful style.

Pronto Volante
All lovers of the Italian pastry wheels know the cool pizza manufactory on Gumpendorfer called Disco Volante. Now there is a new addition to the family. The just-opened, tiny sister of the Disco is called Pronto Volante and fits in perfectly with the Corona-ridden city: everything revolves around take-away and delivery here. The menu focuses on the essentials: pizze bianche, rosse, fritte and a bit of Italian street food. The furnishings are discreet-austere, but that doesn't matter. The main thing is that the large pizza oven works. And from it come delicacies with grilled vegetables or porchetta. Wonderful!
