"Heya Girls!"
The numbers are really terrible: 577,000 tons of edible food are thrown away every year in Austria. A third of all foodstuffs end up in the waste basket! A clever project now wants to counteract. With the aid of the app “Too Good To Go” you can buy food in restaurants, bakeries and a few shops at heavily reduced prices and fetch it before it is disposed of. Example: the luxury-hotel SO/Vienna would have to throw away the leftovers from the breakfast buffet since they cannot or must not be reused. Thanks to the app you can now get a whole take-away box with treats from the buffet (after breakfast) for only 4.99€! Around 200 venues and shops in Vienna have already joined in – you can also save organic veggies by Adamah, Raw Juices and pastries from the day before for around the third of their price all over the city. It’s obviously a surprise what kind of stuff will be left over. But in any case, it can already be said that the desserts from the SO/Vienna are definitely the bomb ;-)

Wishing you a sustainable week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Dudlerei
Nice name ;-) The recently opened Dudlerei is all about the well-known herbal lemonade with the couple in traditional garb-label – and the busy-bee company boss Thomas Klein. His most recent coup: a pop-up store in the 1st district where you can snatch around 800 private treasures and Almdudler-rarities of the entrepreneur family! Including: iconic signs and placards but also a legendary Fiat 500L from 1971, a dollhouse from the 30s and an original Mel Ramos pop-art colour print. You can also eat and drink here. Like Alpine herb-flavoured mini-Gugelhupfs. Eccentric!

Dia de los Muertos
Nice concept: according to Mexican belief, the dead visit from beyond the other side on 1 November, on the “Dia de los Muertos”, to celebrate a joyful reunion with us living people. In Vienna, the Day of the Dead is celebrated today at WUK with much pomp. The portico was designed by Mexican artists, there’s a carnival of dolls in and in front of the museum and an exhibition. With that, they have folkdance groups, mariachis and Mexican food. Tomorrow it’s the WUK’s turn, where the dead are being remembered with splendidly kitschy altars, dances and margaritas.

Annett Louisan
Aw, here comes the perfect antidote to the approaching November blues: the only Vienna-concert by Annett Louisan! The German vocal-sensation, who poetically named herself after her grandma (her real name is Annett Päge), has written some new heartwarming feel-good chansons. “Kleine große Liebe” is the name of the album where she warbles about the “Zweites erstes Mal”, about “Traumpaare aus der Gosse” and the “Straße der Millionäre”. It sounds heavenly, childish and a bit crazy all at the same time. If you don’t believe it, click here. The others will meet at Stadthalle.

The female gaze
Ever heard of Louise Kolm-Fleck? If not it’s high time! She was not only the first female Austrian director but also caused quite a stir and a lot of turmoil in the 1930s with her radical (silent) films like “Frauenarzt Dr. Schäfer”. Even abortion, rape and impotence were not considered taboo by the film pioneer. Since 27 October, the Filmarchiv has been dedicating a retrospective to her. On 31 October, they show “Der Orlow” (two men, one woman, one stolen gemstone – that means drama!), on the last day, today: “Der Meineidbauer”, a farmer-maid-tragedy with consequences …

Soup with Purpose
From today, you can spoon up good karma in the form of soup in all of Austria again! More than 200 top venues once again participate in the relief effort of Wiener Tafel. 1 Euro goes directly to people affected by poverty. Not only does that warm your own stomach during the cold season but also, more importantly, the solidary heart! Viennese venues joining in: Marco Simonis, Palmenhaus, Mochi Ramen Bar, hidden kitchen, Bristol and many more. There’s really no good excuse NOT to gourmandise deliciously smelling soup with Grießnockerl, mushrooms or rice noodles with purpose!

DeaD in Vienna
You can say what you want but a certain closeness to death is part of Vienna and the real Viennese, like Sachertorte and Stephansdom. So it’s quite fitting then that the two Operntheater artists and Viennese originals Stefan Fleischhacker and Antonia Lersch indulge in a “pretty dead body” on All Saints’ Day of all days. And serenade death in true city tradition. Which sounds ironic at times, like in the classic “Wenn I amoi stirb”, then sentimental, like in “Einsamer Sonntag”. But in the end the morbidly-tinted song-anecdote-night is thoroughly amusing :-)

Of course, culinary insiders are aware that you can’t buy head coverings or broomsticks here, but the finest oyster mushroom delicacies ;-) The Viennese mushroom growers who grow their mushrooms on coffee grounds obviously need new supplies. In any case, they invite you today not just for shopping but also for drinking coffee and eating cake. There will be sweets by ViolaWien, furniture by Indigo Express and, naturally, all kinds of fresh and pickled mushroom goodies from goulash to pesto. The first espresso is on the house. And today is the Opening Party.

Modified Grounds
This year, Wien Modern rolls into town with 100 events in 12 districts. So the theme of the festival, “growth”, is quite fitting. At today’s musical performance “Modified Grounds”, visual artist Katrin Hornek and composer Judith Unterpertinger outdo themselves. Together with 10 percussionists, they play in the inner room of the Brigittenauer Brücke which turns the bridge itself into a sound box. The audience “hovers” on a walkable grid between the surface of the water and the road from the shore of Brigittenau to the other side in Kaisermühlen. If that’s not cool!

CitySpotterGirl is a fan of the cool and well-fit shaping swim- and sportswear of Austro label Margaret and Hermione – just like many other ladies are as well :-) The entire collection is made from recycled fishing nets and today it can be purchased at Amour Fou in the first district under special circumstances! Because designer Barbara Gölles is on site, gives tips during trying on and brings many more pieces of the current sportswear collection than can usually be bought there! They sure know how to design furniture, the Danes! And all interior- and aesthetic fans can now admire the iconic designs by Panton, Jacobsen & co. Hofmobiliendepot shows 200 Danish wow!-pieces from 1900 until today. Among them many furniture classics but also ceramics and jewellery. You may not sit in it, the “Egg Chair” by Arne Jacobsen or in the “Relaxer” by Verner Panton, but you can stand in front of it and be amazed. Highlights from the „Skønvirke”-period (the Danish Jugendstil), Art Deco and PVR period of the 70s are presented, too. Mandatory education!

Lisa Fitz & “Flüsterwitz”
She’s wicked, funny, direct and loud – and one of the most intelligent cabaret artists on the current joke-cannon market: Lisa Fitz. So anyone who is, for whatever reason, in a bad mood and could do with a good portion of fun has to go to the Metropol theatre tonight. The Bavarian queen of gags has brought her “whisper joke(s)” and guitar songs and flouts paranoia and other adverse circumstances. Also feeling the heat will be of course (political) leaders, and the boring fake- and cowardly culture of discussion. 1 hour of Fitz and everything will be alright again, promise!

The programme includes: strength-building, balance, stability, flexibility, coordination and endurance. What else does a woman want? The main “fitness device” will be your own bodyweight. The nice side-effects: body toning and fat burning, grin. But in all honesty, the coolest thing is the improvement of your sense of well-being and of your fitness state from head to torso.

All das Schöne
A child makes a list with all the things it loves about life. Namely to give its mother a new lease of life after a suicide attempt. This is, simply put, the plot of the theatre piece “All das Schöne” by author and star-director Duncan Macmillan, which has been picked up again due to its huge success. He actually wrote it for a man originally, but today it celebrates its debut at the theatre Drachengasse with female direction and a woman in the lead role! And actress Michaela Bilgeri provides a million good reasons why life is worth living.

Open House Alma Gastrotheque
The pure wine trend is starting to be on everyone’s lips over here as well. Since today, there are all of 80 (!) of these super “unadulterated and made from organic grapes”-drops at Alma Gastrotheque. Although a visit to Christina Nasr and Andreas Schwarz has paid off before as well – it’s just really cool there. But now that you can also buy the wonder-wine at the venue “to go”, you’ll simply have to make an extra stop there. They cooperate with the wine business Weinskandal in the third district. acousticClub with Maddy Rose
The young singer with the outstanding jazz voice isn’t all that unknown anymore. After song-writing studies in London, first songs like “Begin Again” on BBC radio and performances at Frequency and the Danube Island Festival, she’s a guest today at the acousticClub in Vienna! Which will certainly make every woman’s heart rejoice, for the Salzburg-born lady has her brand-new, self-confident women’s power-single “You Ain’t Got Me Waiting” in tow. No wonder that the feminist music label Silvertree Records recently signed her on. This woman is going places!

Yes, we all know the Badeschiff already. But the galley has been taken over by a whole new crew – namely the cooks of the not-for-profit association Speisen ohne Grenzen. Which means that below deck of the ship wrapped in pink, you can now enjoy unusual dishes: for the cooks who fled to us have not only brought courage but also the traditional cuisine of their homes.
