editorial

"Heya Girls!"
I’m telling you, I could jump up and down with joy all day! Doesn’t happen that often, after all, that dreams come true. Because after we first published a treat with the “Wiener Muster-Buch” for “Paperlover” two years ago, I dreamed on. Of ornaments and decors that should be found in Viennese museums. And what can I say? Thanks to the amazing cooperation of 19 Viennese museums, a book was created that has never existed in this form before! In the new Musterbuch, you will find wallpaper designs by Josef Hoffmann and the Wiener Werkstätten as well as precious fabric patterns from the Imperial Treasury and Klimt’s Kuss which merrily jumped into an Art Nouveau décor. Albertina contributed valuables, the Kunsthistorisches Museum likewise. Each page of the book can easily be taken out to be creative with. As of now, you can buy “Das Wiener Musterbuch – Die Museums-Edition” in every bookstore and in the webshop. And then jump with me ;-)

Wishing you a wildly patterned week,

German Expressionism
At the beginning of the 20thcentury, it was basically Sodom and Gomorrah in the Dresden art community ;-) The painting rebels of the “Brücke” captured their emotions and their inner landscapes on canvas driven by hormones and in a dramatic way back then. Pretty much everything was questioned: the concept of beauty, reason, the prevalent conventions. As of now, 120 of these bright-coloured exhibits and brushstroke hurricanes from the Braglia & Johenning collections can be seen in Vienna for the first time. They have everything from Emil Nolde to Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee. Vernissage today!

30 Years Hat Boutique
The Viennese milliner Karin Bergmayer really has reason to celebrate! She’s been running her hat salon in the 12thdistrict for 30 years now, where many downright glamorous head coverings have passed across the counter. Today she hosts a hat fashion show and presents her top highlights. Like the “Wiener Wappen-Hut”, “Little Heartbreakers” and “Sweethets”-fascinators, Trachten-antler-hat objects – but also classic models and retro models in the style of the 50s and 60s. After the show you can purchase the eye-catcher-pieces by auction (from 50€). The queen would be delighted!

Tereza Hossa – Abenteuer
Yay, a new women’s power voice will sound through the domestic cabaret universe from now on! Poetry slammer Tereza Hossa chats about acute “Abenteuer” (adventures) of life in her first solo performance. Which includes digestive problems in the morning just as well as female machos, small crying men at the counter or the absurd productivity urge that makes women run even in their sleep. Animal-like things will be discussed, too, which could be due to the fact that the adventurer will soon be a trained vet. Today she’s not in the stables but on the stage, though :-)

The Night of Ceramics
If you haven’t let off enough steam creatively during the workweek, you can now do that at the beginning of the weekend in a very unusual way. The ceramics artist Sabine Berchtold opens her pretty atelier at the night of ceramics. You will work with clay from 17:00 with the motto “Masterpieces are created when time stands still”. After a joint dinner, the participants engage with the world of vessels and figurines. With the help and support of Sabine Berchtold, every artwork will be worked on until it is finished – open end.

Wunderl Pop-up
Oioioi, shoe connoisseurs get all giddy when they hear the word Wunderl! Because the chic shop carries wonderfully pretty designer shoes and bags. The only downside for us Viennese ladies: the shoe paradise’s home is near Wiener Neustadt. But: Wunderl now comes to us into town for a pop-up for two days and he comes bearing tempting goods. Best shoe picks then, dear ladies, from mules to pumps, from Tod’s to Jimmy Choo, from New Arrival to outlet bargains. And the enticing shoe wonderland is also opened on Saturday until 20:00 o’clock in the evening. Hallelujah!

Tim Fischer “Zeitlos”
Actor and singer Tim Fischer is somewhat like the male counterpart of Hildegard Knef ;-) He, too, sings – sometimes full of feeling, sometimes rough – powerful songs and ballads about love and life. And subjects sentimentalities to an endurance test. So it’s a total possibility that a lady might go through a whole spectrum of feelings between melancholy, tenderness and silly overexcitement at his concert. Tonight, you can see him and his band at Theater Akzent in Vienna! You can find a musical teaser here. Real-time heart-rending guaranteed!

Ayurveda type-cooking
This is not a normal cooking class but actually a perfect intro to the world of Ayurveda. And in that system, food is simply the key to wellbeing. It starts with an individual determination of everyone’s constitution by Ayurveda therapist Lutz Mossbauer, where you get a quick lesson on the three basic humours Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Afterwards it’s on to the cooking according to type: there is red beet (Pitta), yellow pumpkin curry (Vata), creamy Mung Dal (Kapha), rice with goji berries and delicious chicory with cashew soy sauce. Mathematical walks
Tonight, the terrific mathematical genius Emmy Noether is brought back to life on the theatre stage. And with her her moving biography. Not only did she qualify as a university teacher as one of the first women in Prussia, helped Albert Einstein solve mathematical problems and established groundbreaking theorems! No, thanks to actress Anita Zieher and the new play “Mathematische Spaziergänge mit Emmy Noether” we learn a whole lot more than that. Like why she loved pudding or why she could best do calculations during walks. Great woman, great play. Today’s the premiere!

Soli Kiani: Ausgeschlossen
Things can only get fascinating when an Iran native artistically deals with the topics woman and freedom. That’s clearly what the STRABAG Kunstforum team thought when giving the Artaward International to Applied Arts graduate Soli Kiani recently. At the new exhibition you can admire her tent-like “sculptural paintings” made from colour and linen that are reminiscent of chadors in her old homeland. Perhaps she will thus win her own place in history. Today you could ask her that – she will be leading through the exhibition herself!

Writing Workshop “Lists”
Alright, today you have to sharpen your pencil and your ears. Creativity coach Michaela Obertscheider invites you to her literature lab and helps aspiring journalists and poets take their first word-steps. Humorous and unconventional exercises will have you reflect, make lists, prick up your ears and take notes. No previous knowledge required, but you need pencil, paper and a head full of thoughts (which shouldn’t be hard for a woman ;-) There are 3 sessions altogether, individual ones are possible, too. So if you want to get into the flow, writing-wise, and swap ideas, report here!

Otto Prutscher
As an exception, we can sing today: home to great boys ;-) For the MAK dedicates a new show to the Austrian wonder boy of architecture, art and design, Otto Prutscher, starting today. He is considered a pivotal pioneer of the Vienna Moderne. And was quite obviously active as architect, designer, exhibition creator, teacher and artistic advisor during his entire life. There is quite simply no other explanation for the huge output of groundbreaking buildings, furnishing and furniture designs, art graphics and objects. Go there, be amazed, today is the vernissage!

 Con el Viento
Cine Por Mujeres
Finally a film series again that exclusively features cinema by and for women! Since in this case it was initiated by the Instituto Cervantes, the films all come bilingual (in Spanish with English subtitles). But that doesn’t matter! The series includes two really great feature films, one documentary and short films made by talented women’s hands. On today’s programme is the family drama “Con El Viento” by Meritxell Collel, in which an older, unsuccessful dancer is forced to move back to her parents’ house. Chaos ensued. Until 22 November!

Zeck
A Viennese version of a kafkaesque metamorphosis is taking place right now at Theater Hamakom. Only that good old Gregor Samsa doesn’t turn into a beetle but a tick. And anyway, everything in this new interpretation of Kafka’s parable is different, more modern, more musical – but not less bizarre: Gregor Samsa is on coke, has settled into Hotel Mum, steals, sneers and is a generally an unscrupulous odd bod. Perhaps that’s why he has to turn into a bloodsucking tick ;-) Weird play with lots of music and a touch of family constellations!

Tonight you have the opportunity to really treat yourself. Or rather, your connective tissue. Together with yoga coach Helga Holczik you give deeper situated facia and meridians a run for their money via different yin-yoga exercises. This helps make the body pleasantly flexible and supple again. And totally incidentally, peace and focus will ensue, as well. Today, the focus is on fascia rolls and fascia balls made of pine wood. The good news: it sounds more exhausting than it is. And after one-and-a-half hours, you feel relaxed and light again!

Whether you call them Teigtaschen, tortellini or dumplings – these stuffed things really exist all over the world. And so do many fans across the globe. Near the University of Vienna in a handsome “fast food” venue, they now play the leading role. You order a small or big portion, wait a moment and are then blessed with some freshly steamed dumplings. They are filled with braised pork belly and kimchi as topping, with spicy shrimps and wakame seaweed or pumpkin with balsamic vinegar. Everything tastes delicious, is super-fast and of course you can have everything as take-away as well. As a dessert you can order sweet dumplings.
