"Heya Girls!"
So, dear fashionistas, everything’s a bit different this year. The Modepalast takes place a month earlier than usual this year - and for the first time, the country's largest boutique opens its doors in the Künstlerhaus. This weekend on two floors, 100 national and international designers are selling their newest collections, including those that we otherwise seldom get to see in Vienna. With a focus set on green fashion, with a special newcomers' section that presents promising labels such as Ferrari Zöchling, Ludus, Milenika or Twofold Concept. With daily fashion shows and an exhibition of fashion school Ebensee's Dirndl collection, in cooperation with designer Nhut La Hong. With the programme "Spot on Finland", which presents avant-garde items from nine Finnish designers. And fashion school Hetzendorf even sets up an upcycling corner. Ladies, pack your wallets!

Careful, it's gonna get shrill! Glitter, feathers, birds, coloured garlands and ornaments: this all can be bought at the first Life Ball pop-up store. This year, the motto's "Garden of lust", the temporary shop offers all kinds of matching extravagant accessories and costumes by deco specialist Zaruba. This way, ladies are sure to dance with the perfect outfit on 31 May. A part of the revenue will benefit AIDS projects. And those still looking for inspiration should make a find there: the craziest looks from the Life Ball style bible will be exposed in the shop.

For Cassie Taylor, daughter of the great Otis Taylor, blues really runs in the family. At 26 years old, the power woman from Colorado already looks back on over 10 years of stage experience. Her haunting voice and her bass, accompanied by guitar and drums, are enough to tell strong love stories. Infectious rhythms and influences from every conceivable genre result in a souly and sexy new interpretation of blues. At the ViennaBluesSpring Festival, she presents her second studio album today. Self-written and self-produced, of course.

Memoirs of Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky
She was the first woman to study architecture in Austria. She designed the world's first fitted kitchen. And in 1939, she joined the resistance against Hitler. In 1941, Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky went back to her home city Vienna for political reasons, but was imprisoned by the Gestapo after just a few weeks. In her memoirs, Schütte-Lihotzky describes the process during which she barely just got away with her life, and the painful time in the women's jail. Today: reading and book presentation of her most moving memories.

Vagina Monologues
Yep, that's a good thing! This charity reading benefits the women shelters in Vienna. And this during V-Day, which fights for an end to rape, domestic violence and genital mutilation through many campaigns. That's why excerpts from the Vagina Monologues will be recited at the Off-Theater. German-English and read by ladies who've been involved in the struggle against violence for a long time. By the way, the famous book originates from Eve Ensler, who has interviewed 200 women in it and asked about their relation to their body.

City Farm: season start for garderners
Shall we leap in the air, wave our arms about, or start hooraying (or how is it called?) - gardening season is open! It's maybe still a bit early to start planting flower pots, but there is a lot to do already. At the City Farm Schönbrunn, one can find out what's going on: at the first workshop of the year, they go through the basics of plant propagation. They choose seeds, transplant them - and the produced cutting can be brought back home. By the way, the next course is already on Saturday: creative arrangements with pastures.

Bonfire at Himmel
Bonfires are an old Alemannic tradition on Fastnacht, the day before Ash Wednesday. The people of Vorarlberg and from the Bodensee still celebrate it today. These burning effigies are meters-high wooden towers that are put on fire to bid winter farewell. Starting at 17:00, the community of Thüringen in Vorarlberg is a guest today at Himmel - with the bonfire guild, music, fireworks and the traditional pastries "Funkaküachle". At noon already, there will be a huge Käseknöpfle-meal in restaurant Oktogon. And at 19:00, the over twelve meters-high octagonal bonfire will be lit! Tip: take the public transports!

Spring festival at the Sellerie
It's greening so green! And the Sellerie is also in bloom again: the fine shop (shop of the week: here) invites all to a spring festival. The enchanting store presents itself newly spruced up, with fresh wall paint and new products. It was by the way opened up by 4 graphic designers who accumulated there lots of nice things, ranging from fine art prints and home accessories to postcards. For the celebration, there’s new jewellery by Pikfine, enamel tableware by Riess Austria, novelties by Another Country and Studio PS. Also: a fine wine from the Winery Christoph Edelbauer.

Shen Zhen Gong - also called new age QiGong by some - is a form of QiGong that's slowly finding its way to us. Experts say that they've rarely felt such depth and ease in other forms - the soft, graceful movements make the body more mobile, cleanse the meridians and strengthen the back. They all had the assignment to pack a suitcase: with things that they'd like to keep even in death. The contents are shown in a travelling exhibition that is currently stopping in Vienna. Nordic Walking Group
Whose joints are rusty, their fat pads even rounder than before winter (when did that happen?) and find climbing up stairs is getting more and more exhausting? Those who raise their hand (me!) could head over to Schönbrunn's main entrance today. There, a Nordic Walking group for beginners and out-of-shape-people is organized by the Health Center at St. Josef Hospital. Nordic Walking is considered as the most effective full body training, which relieves the spine and loosens tensions.

Propella
Three women, one message: we're still deciding for ourselves what punk is! That's what the ladies of the young band Propella say, simply throwing overboard all popular clichés. There's the singer Babl Raketa with her rock 'n' roll of complete overexertion, Nadine Abado and Heike Mangold on the bass and drums add another dose of nonchalance. How does this punky-wild mix sound? Intense, blunt, spontaneous and worth hearing. Listen to a sample: here. Even though their first CD won't be released before 25 April, the Trio already presents "Turn it on" at Fluc.

The list of last things
Waiting for Godot for 3 women! "Die Liste der letzten Dinge" ("The list of last things") reminds us of this classic: snappy, touching, the actresses remind us - just like Becket's characters - of clowns. Pia and Helen want to put an end to their banal existence - and this without any immortality and martyr bonus. But then, a young woman enters their life and starts raising questions. Is she the dead husband's lover? Or a journalist, who will make them both famous? This Austrian première, written by author Theresia Walser, shimmers between hope and fear.

Ziemlich 30 – Ziemlich Schlager
Isn't that Marold on stage? And is she singing? Yep, after musicals, cabaret, acting and writing, Eva Maria Marold goes back to her roots, singing. She doesn't pass as a young newcomer any more, but she can still sing. Her new album "Ziemlich 30" ("Quite 30") is quite a hit: Marold has worked Croatian pop songs into it, as well as hits from her childhood. Tonight in the city, she travels through her artistic and vocal works, highlights from her musical career are also a part of it.

And it's finally there! Tehilla Gitterle has given a room to her handmade fashion. Small and cosy, the new shop is a working room, a showroom and a sales room all in one. The current collection presents itself on long branches (by the way, it's at minus 20% at the moment): reduced, clear cuts, printed with patterns or spruced up with vividly coloured pieces. Subtle and unusual at the same time! Cheerful button strips and pleated inserts refine the items. There's a digging box for bargain hunters. And the fish pouch that started it all has also settled there.

Heuer am Karlsplatz
So, the Kunsthallen Café at Karlsplatz is open again! Completely rebuilt (very chic!) with new tenants and a menu far from your usual standard meal. Its name, "Heuer" ("This Year") is a philosophy: they only cook what the season provides. And preserve everything they can. Before eating, one should observe the huge wall with its exquisitely filled canning pots: lemon zest in olive oil, poppy mustard and shrubs, as they call their homemade lemonade. The CitySpotterGirl's favourite food at the moment: maize-fed chicken from the clay oven. A delight for the palate!
