"Heya Girls!"
We use around 17,000 tampons or pads in a lifetime – so women spend thousands of euros on menstrual hygiene products over the years. Whether we like it or not. In Austria, 533,000 women are currently at risk of poverty and around 95,000 are severely affected by poverty, which means that period poverty is not just a problem in poor countries – it is becoming increasingly common here too. For many women, especially young girls, menstruation is a huge financial burden. And those who cannot afford menstrual products often resort to unhygienic and dangerous alternatives such as rags or toilet paper. This is why an appeal has been made to all women in Vienna: Until 31 March, period products can be dropped off at many Caritas locations in Vienna – including the Caritas shop on Mariahilfer Strasse! Especially pads, tampons, panty liners and underwear. If you want to help in the long term, you can also become a “period sponsor” and support a woman with a monthly contribution of €5. Dear readers, please join in!

Wishing you a helpful week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Easter Fashion Pop-up
The Easter bunny, aka the coolest fashion designers, has great things in store for everybunny: for 3 days, the crème de la crème of the avant-garde fashion scene is gathering for a fine pop-up in the already super-snappy store Sumpf in Margaretenstraße. Christina Seewald is there with her translucent basic eyecatchers, Florentina Leitner brings her playfully eccentric wow-pieces with lots of frills and flowers just in time for spring, and Mühlbauer Hutmanufaktur will also be there with stylish headwear. Today is the opening party with DJs & drinks!

 A18-Gallery
Celebrating identities
To lead a self-determined life, away from male dominance, corrupt rule and colonial paradigms – a desire that is unfortunately often denied to women in African countries. AG18 Gallery is currently exhibiting works by six African artists who celebrate the role of women in all its facets. The paintings are colourful and show self-confident women who refuse to be reduced to objects, who assert their personality and individuality and decide for themselves how to live, what to want and what to achieve. Very aesthetic and inspiring!

 Café Eskeles
Boker tov!
For a change, the motto is not “Night at the Museum”, but “Good Morning at the Jewish Museum”! Because on selected dates, a limited number of people interested in Vienna's Jewish history can now enter through the gates of the museum before everyone else. The special guided tours cover topics such as Vienna's first Christmas tree, the Viennese Rothschilds and why Gustav Mahler didn't like honey. Speaking of honey: afterwards, Cafe Eskeles serves an extensive oriental breakfast and kosher sparkling wine. Le'chajim!

 Vessels & Meaning
Ceramics: Vessels of Meaning
A universal language that everyone understands, whether they learned it or not. Wouldn't that be handy? That's what ten artists thought when they opened their exhibition of ceramic exhibition at the Amerlinghaus cultural centre today. They see their objects as vessels that carry the weight of human experience, history and cultural reflection, and want them to leave room for interpretation. Whether this is expressed in German, Arabic, French or Swahili is irrelevant – the objects speak for themselves. Joining the chat is encouraged!

Ulrich Tukur & Die Rhythmus Boys
Witty, a little cheesy and simply charmingly old school – that's what the Rhythm Boys around the golden-voiced actor Ulrich Tukur have been for what seems like an eternity. With their weightless melodies, sophisticated dance music and gentlemanly outfits, the quartet knows how to turn darkness into light, adversity into confidence and sadness into high spirits! Today they try to do just that with their programme 'Es leuchten die Sterne', a repertoire of Italian and French hits and fantastic new arrangements. It feels like a journey on the wings of colourful dreams!

Broncia Koller-Pinell
Apart from the fact that Broncia Koller-Pinell was a sensational artist, she would be described as a networking talent today. Thanks to her numerous cultural contacts, the Jewish painter became one of the most present painters of Viennese Modernism even towards the end of her career, despite prevailing anti-Semitism and National Socialist caesuras. The current retrospective at the Belvedere not only traces the artist's impressive stylistic development, but also her network for the first time. For example, Koller-Pinell was also an active patron of the arts. A discovery!

Schönbrunn Easter Market
Easter is coming! Sure, the Easter market in the Schönbrunn parade court is a tourist magnet. But what's so bad about seeing Vienna through the eyes of a foreigner sometimes? Exactly. After all, the magnificent backdrop is hard to beat, the arts and crafts stalls offer all sorts of beautiful things, there is delicious food (Easter ham gröstl, beef goulash, Kaiserschmarrn) – and every Saturday and Sunday jazz combos provide some lively springtime vibes. This morning, the Borderland Dixieband will be celebrating the arrival of spring. All free of charge, of course.

Rudi Anschober’s new book
What will happen tomorrow? Or next year? Or in 2040? While some people are predicting the end of the world and a complete climate catastrophe, there are also optimistic realists like Rudi Anschober, luckily. In his new book, the former minister explains how the future can still tur out great in a vision based on science and facts. Anschober's recipe for happiness: overcoming habits and past policies and starting a revolution together! Eugenie Schwarzwald
Who knew it: Vienna's first girls' Gymnasium was located in the Steigenberger Hotel Herrenhof around a hundred years ago! It was founded by the great educationalist Eugenie Schwarzwald, who fought tirelessly for girls to be allowed to learn more than dull housework. With success, as the likes of Oskar Kokoschka and Adolf Loos were coming and going at the Schwarzwald School. The Steigenberger Hotel is currently hosting an exhibition on the pioneer, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the era and then enjoy tea time à la Eugenie!

Tiohtiá:ke – Montréal
They were driven from their land, their traditions were taken from them, as were their children, who were forcibly educated in boarding schools to become “real” Canadians. In his new novel, Canadian star journalist Michel Jean focuses on those indigenous people who have been robbed of their roots and now live as homeless people on the streets of Montréal, or Tiohtiá:ke as the city is called in the Mohawk language. Nevertheless, it is not a dreary book, because you are constantly rooting for the protagonists to find a way out of drugs and violence. Today is the book launch!

New Acroyoga studio
It was always a little highlight as a child to be allowed to play airplane on your stomach on the soles of adults' feet! Well, this is now also possible for adults in Vienna, and it's not actually that easy. In Acroyoga – a mixture of yoga, acrobatics and Thai massage – you and a partner learn to control your weight and move your body in different planes. One person, the flyer, floats on the soles of their partner's feet and the other balances and supports the flyer. Curious to know more? There's a beginners' class today and every Tuesday at Hannah and Alexis' newly opened acroyoga studio!

Holidays in Austria
Our beautiful Vienna, Tyrol or Styria – holiday hotspots par excellence! This was not always the case, however, as Austria was rather avoided after 1945. The personal snapshots of a London couple who travelled to Austria in the 1950s and found it to be an idyllic holiday destination document how the Alpine republic nevertheless became a tourist magnet. Also on display: exciting objects such as seemingly Baroque furniture newly made for the Hofburg in 1947, and the elaborate costume of a contemporary Mozart ticket seller!

Hubert von Goisern
Perhaps it's because of their shared home in the Salzkammergut that your CitySpotterGirl is such a fan, but more likely it's because of the great talent of alpine rocker Hubert von Goisern. His songs are authentic through and through and, as a mix of rock, jazz and folk music, really unusual. Today, the musician has teamed up with the Lungau Big Band, who give his touching lyrics a real swing with saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, piano, bass and drums. Definitely oldie but goldie and you can look forward to the combo!

kabllo
Statement necklaces made from lamp wires, delicate necklaces made from telephone cords, bracelets made from paper – it all sounds a bit like kindergarten crafts. But that's exactly where owner Danica Beyll got the idea for her label kabllo: the jewellery doesn't look like children's stuff, but is an absolute eye-catcher when embellished with gemstones and pearls. The educator and archaeologist specialises in accessories made from upcycled materials and has created a treasure trove of surprising treasures. Danica's extravagant hat creations are also available in the cosy boutique!

The Hegel
Wow, the tourists are out and about again. On Saturdays you can barely get through Kärtnerstraße and all the cafés are full. But for those who have to go into the city centre, there is a new insider tip. The Hegel is a little off the beaten track and therefore not (yet) overrun. The beautiful building on Johannesgasse has been home to a coffee house since 1921 – and now a really chic one has moved in. With minimalist decor, lots of grey and a giant lamp, it's a great place to sit. The menu is small, but French Toast and smoothies for breakfast and vegetable curry for lunch are delicious!
