"Heya Girls!"
What is happening, when a rooster falls in love with an owl and a shipwrecked African is suddenly cared for by a uniformed mermaid? Exactly! The Tricky Women are in town. The only Film Festival in Europe, which is entirely dedicated to animated film making by women, is presenting 164 films at the Metro Cinema this year – and has pixel, puppets and plasticine figures dance across the screen. Modern pioneers of the scene show (this year with a focus on Japan) really strong and authentic animation-stuff: “Moms on Fire” is a story without taboos about pregnancy, “Calling You” a tribute to the absent mother. And “Window Horse” (image), a poetic piece of art, is about a young Canadian poet travelling to a literature festival in Teheran and finding her roots in this for her foreign culture.  Different than live-action films, animated movies don’t care about logic and laws of nature – whoever is craving some fantasy, should definitely plan a short-term vacation at the cinema.

Wishing you an amusing week

 Cirque du Soleil
Cirque du Soleil „Amaluna“
The most beautiful circus of the world is back in the city! And what is particularly awesome this time: the new show includes almost only female artists; even the musicians are all women. The story is set on a mysterious island that is ruled by goddesses. The queen of the island Prospera organizes a colorful ritual full of knowledge and wisdom in order to celebrate her daughter’s womanhood. And love plays a part and interferes as well. As always, the show is filled with gorgeous acrobatics, great costumes and magical music, floating between illusion and reality.

Electro folk worth hearing – even though you won’t understand a word ;-)
The Breton musician-duo Simone Alves and Yann Gourvil intertwine old Celtic folklore, songs and legends from their homeland with the sounds of the Near East – inspired by a trip to Istanbul. In this manner, the two musicians use their sound not only to mix two different worlds, but also two time periods. Yann Gourvil plays different Turkish instruments and accentuates the songs with fine electronic loops, Simone Alves provides the vocals. Tonight they are performing in Vienna for the first time, listen in here!

Off it goes! The first green shoots are showing, the birds are going crazy chirping away, looking for partners and you can feel the warming sunshine. You will be shown how to pre-seed, rogue and produce cuttings. Because April is around the corner and planting out and seeding of the first plants is officially on the garden calendar. Yippie!

Bingo Birds – woodcarving from Bali
Decorative household spirits that are supposedly 100 percent effective: a few so-called Bali Birds have settled in the World-Art gallery Fortuna at the moment. The colorful fantasy birds were made by Suantara and Agus Made. They are father and son, come from the village Bakudui in Bali, which is well-known for its craftsmanship and they have a soft spot for rare birds of paradise. They use the light wood of the native Albazia, the pink siris, to carve artful fantasy birds and paint them, like decorative plumes, with many different colors. Very pretty, even though the spirits don’t agree ;-)

Stefan Jürgens
Everybody knows his face, but not many know, that SOKO-Donau TV-inspector Stefan Jürgens sings as well. Right now he is using the break in shooting the show in order to go on tour with his new (and already forth!) album. Almost all of the compassionate and pleasant songs on the album “Grenzenlos Mensch” were written by the singer with the striking voice himself, in his lyrical texts he sings about our time and stands up for a life without exclusion. And when it comes to stage presence, the TV-star definitely knows what he is doing ;-) Premiere in Austria today at the Metropol, listen in here!

Archeological tour at the Stephansplatz
City-walkers have probably already noticed: the general renovation of the Stephansplatz has started. They are laying new floors, installing lights and creating more seating areas. That the square is being dug up right now also has its advantages, because from now on free archeological tours are offered every Monday. Because next to the renovation, the city archeology is also carrying out excavations, in order to document possible remnants from the past of the historically important square around the cathedral “Steffl”. Literally the perfect possibility for exciting insights!

Roots
One of them comes from the Salzkammergut, one from Italy and one from Hungary: three handsome young men are revving up the neighborhood of the CitySpotterGirl. “Here, the food has roots” is the motto, which means: they only cook what comes from their own farm or producers they know well. Every lettuce leaf has its own history, and yes, the lentils are from the 10th district. Tastes delicious (incredibly tender chicken filet!) – and it’s noticeable that the service comes from top restaurants. But here, the atmosphere is a lot more easygoing and warm! By the way: the pantry also serves as a market for the guests
