"Heya Girls!"
Sometimes, the stories of plants involve true crime novels. The first “stock market crash” in the world in 1673 was triggered by tulip bulbs, for example – the Dutch’s tulip obsession bankrupted whole families. Less catastrophic, but equally exciting was the year 1776: The Swedish natural scientist Thunberg then illegally imported four camellias from Japan to London. Three of them were given as a present to royal gardens and this is how one specimen of the Asian beauties landed in Schönbrunn. The reputation of the exquisite plant was quickly spread throughout Europe, the camellia became the most expensive flower for the nobels and the rich. Heated glasshouses were built for them and novels were written for them. The plant doesn’t exist any more in Schönbrunn, but the Palm House owns a historic camellia collection until today. And, like every year in January, the beauties now start blooming, at the very back of the so-called cold house. You may visit them every day until the end of February. A silent tip, but an exquisitely beautiful one.

Evelyn Grill: Winter Journey
Since real winter is not really showing up, the Upper Austrian silkscreen artist Evelyn Grill now lets it snow her way. She gave colour and shape to the 24-part melancholic song cycle “Winter Journey”, composed by Franz Schubert in 1827, and packed it into just as many pictures. So, art enthusiasts may now marvel at “Frozen Tears“ and “Loneliness“ or become “Frozen Stiff“. If you prefer to keep on moving, buy a museum ticket, proceed to the Schubert room on the third floor of the House of Music and listen to his works and stories.

Tambours du Bronx
The 16 industrial drummers from the French working-class district Varennes-Vauzelles, who have beaten the hell out of everything that makes a good sound since 1987, are loud, wild and smashing. Now, the successful live combo comes to Vienna with their twelfth album “Corros” and invite to one of their energetic audio-visual adventure spectacles in the WUK! Ohropax are definitely a good idea, since the wild mix of rock, industrial techno, Afro beat and synthetic sounds knocks even the strongest Mary out of her high heels. Opening night: [Trans] Asia Portraits
The artistic programme in the 21er Haus is peaking towards Asia as of now. Everything is loud, colourful, crazy and completely different there. Exciting dance performances, installations and movies are shown for one week, but at the Opening Night taking place today, they are for free! In Michael Laub’s choreography “Dance Portraits“ pretty Asian women dance in the tension field between traditional canons and modern club sounds. The Weltmuseum displays original procession sculptures from Kolkata and the artist Zhang Yuan presents a touching documentary about China’s most famous transsexuals.

Vegan Ball
It’s already the 4th time that the vegan community is stylishly dancing towards dawn in the Arcotel Kaiserwasser. The whole ball programme is quite impressive, but the biggest hooray goes out to the spectacular 4-course-gala-menu. For the first time it is created by eight Arcotel chefs from Berlin, Zagreb & co and three sorts of carrot variations on pumpernickel-mushroom-earth or cheese-crusted Mediterranean seitan are a true treat for our taste buds (from 6pm, for 43,90€). The programme continues with shows, quadrille and DJ music.

Helga Kromp-Kolb: Flight and climate
A new insight into the permanent topic “refugee crisis” is provided by the Austrian climate researcher and globe expert Helga Kromp-Kolb this morning. She demonstrates that not only wars, economic disasters and political grievances, but also global climate change makes more and more people flee to Europe. Of course, we’ve been aware of the fact that climatic changes also have an effect on future political, economic and social systems in the long run – but not to such an extent: 200 million global climate refugees are predicted for the year 2050 alone. Living room concert: Magmoiselle
When she sings, the “ Sonne” rises and “ Die Schnulze” gets a completely new meaning: the young singer Teresa Eitzinger alias “Magmoiselle“. The Upper Austrian loves her job, sings a mix of jazz, soul and pop that goes directly to her fans’ hearts and she produced her first album herself in 2012. Two years later, she went to Paris with her single “Vitamin B” and met the Nouvelle Vague Maestro Marc Collin who immediately engaged her. Today, the young lady with the powerful voice performs in a very relaxed way in the living room of the Café 7Stern. The CitySpotterGirl is already looking forward :)

Kitchen get-together: Chinese New Year Special
The brut has always cooked “creative soups” – as of recently, also in the literal sense in the in-house kitchen of the brut. Once a month they organize a culinary get-together, where everyone is invited to swap recipes, to chat, to help cooking and to dine. Nude drawing in front of nude portraits
Looking around the exhibition “The Women of Klimt, Schiele, Kokoschka“ alone is not enough today. Voluntary drawing disciples rather grab a brush themselves after a short guided tour. And since nude portraits were central subjects for the three most important Viennese Modern Age painters, the 3-part course is also about drawing nude models. The model - maybe a bit less open-legged than in Klimt’s paintings - is sitting in the middle of the room and waits for graphic rapprochement. The artist René Herar provides tips and support. Pichlmaiers Zum Herkner
One sentence would actually be enough at this point: Best corn-fed chicken breast ever! Simply delicious, with emmer wheat and carrot puree. In case some of you are still curious about the long version: At times when Heinz Herkner’s famous restaurant in Neuwaldegg was still existing, the CitySpotterGirl was living in a friendly foreign country. But it couldn’t have been better than the “Herkner” now reopened by the Pichlmaier family (after years of vacancy). The furniture is pretty and funny (heart-shaped chairs!), service is top, the food -from Beuschl to goulash - fantastic. Restaurant 2.0 to perfection.
