"Heya Girls!"
This is nice: once again we get to be shamelessly curious! We are allowed to check out strange apartments and knock on strange doors without announcing our visit. Because this weekend 65 (often private) buildings in Vienna are opening their doors, even though they are usually not open to the public – and allow us a glimpse behind the façade. The event is called “Open House Wien”, it’s an architecture project from London and happens annually in 30 cities from New York to Tel Aviv. Open House shows buildings with special histories, exciting architecture or interesting concepts. The undisputed highlight of this year is the Bohemian State Chancellery! During the Habsburg Empire the Bohemians had their own chancellery in Vienna, responsible for the administration of the kingdom. The baroque building on Judenplatz was severely damaged by a bomb during the 2nd world war and then rebuilt. Today it is the home of the Administrative Court and it can be visited this weekend. By the way: whoever has an extraordinary apartment or an interesting building project and would like to show it to the public, should please sign up for the next Open House!

Wishing you a curious week

 MUSA / Dejan Dukic
10 Years MUSA
Hands up for the artistic contemporaries of our city: for 10 years the MUSA has been presenting contemporary art from the collection of the City of Vienna. For its anniversary the museum basically reflects upon itself and shows how mechanisms and logic of a museum impact the art that is being presented there. In order to do so, works of different artists were chosen, part of it for example Dejan Dukic, who creates his pieces out of the edges of oil paintings. The opening is celebrated today with a performance of Barbis Rufer and afterwards a party at the Volkshalle at City Hall!

MUSA, Felderstraße 6-8, 1010 Vienna, opening 7.9. 18:00. Exhibition until 13.1. Free entry. Web

 Vitra
Vitra sample sale
An absolute insiders’ tip and a grand opportunity for design-lovers! In London people camp out in freezing temperatures for this – and in Vienna you should definitely get there on time as well. Because the Swiss cult firm Vitra is opening its Viennese warehouse! Which means: the exclusive furniture pieces are a lot more affordable than usually. Chairs, shelves, lamps, tables and most of all a great selection of design-classics are given away as well-kept warehouse pieces for almost half the price off. Part of it: cult-chairs from Eames and Panton. Be aware: hard to find. The address for the GPS is Breitenleerstraße 101!

Something for wild chicks and biker babes! And the location for this biker festival is really cool as well: the former F23 factory in Liesing exudes a sharp old-industry charm. There is quite a lot to discover here, tons of cool motorbikes and during free workshops you can learn welding, how to clean carburetors or practice lettering & lining (please bring helmets, jackets and tanks!), and for the especially brave there is also the opportunity to get a tattoo ;-) And last but not least there is awesome food on wheels: food trucks like Hykitchen or the Wrapstars will provide the necessary carb-input. Yeah!

Free Shiatsu in a tent
Free service for all September-sufferers! The Austrian umbrella organization for Shiatsu is inviting to free Shiatsu treatments today in Ottakring. In order to do so, they put up a big tent with treatment-mats right in front of the last stop of the U3. Six Shiatsu practitioners are ready from 11:00 on and provide free Shiatsu sessions. A small explanation for newbies: the translation of “shi” is finger and “atsu” means pressure – in the sense of an attentive touch while using fingertips, the base of the thumb, elbows, knees or feet. Really nice and activating for your self-healing powers!

Building étagères
The most beautiful use of old plates! You look for plates that stylistically go together and connect them using metal rods to create a decorative étagère. But it is not as easy as it sounds, because you need to drill holes into the porcelain plates – and in order to do that you need expert explanations and the right tools. At today’s workshop at the Werkbuchcafe you can learn all the tricks and you are shown the different steps of drilling. Afterwards, you can build your very own étagère. Plates and nice metal rods are available there, but feel free to bring your own dishes.

Edited
The fashion label from Hamburg actually started out as an online shop. But by now the trendy pieces are also being sold in the “analogue life” and after four shops in Germany the first store in Vienna opened its doors. At Mariahilfer Straße, where American Apparel used to be located, you can now find the clean pieces for fashionistas. And that for any occasion – be it cool city looks, feminine party styles or beach wear. Brands like Superga, Adidas and Le Specs can be found just as much as the current “Edited the label” in-house collection – together with a great mix of the most popular styles of the season.

ON sud
And once again Simon Xie Hong has opened a new restaurant. This time it is more of a Mediterranean-Asia-fusion, which sounds a lot more unusual than it actually is. The head chef is from Greece, but the dishes (like feta ravioli with peanuts and chili oil or egg tofu) are mostly inspired by Asia. What is really beautiful is the atmosphere: a very old restaurant was brought back to life through the use of lots of grey paint, custom-made concrete tiles and modern lamps, while keeping its coziness. And thanks to its charming location at the Kirchenplatz, the terrace is huge as well. This is what a “Kirchenwirt” looks like in 2017 ;-)
