"Heya Girls!"
I’m telling you, Vienna is so modern! Here, even romance is beamed into the next century. The occasion is obvious (at least for people in love): next Monday is Valentine's Day. And the Belvedere is taking this as an opportunity to present the most progressive declaration of love of this year. The most famous depiction of a couple in love – Gustav Klimt's “Kiss” – will be sold digitally as NFTs. If this is as clear as mud to you: a high-resolution digital copy is divided into a 100x100 grid. This creates 10,000 unmistakable individual pieces that are offered as non-fungible tokens, or NFTs for short. So if you want, you can buy tiny puzzle pieces of the digital image as a gift of love. Not cheap, but so hip! If you prefer the old-fashioned way, the Grand Hotel can prepare a Valentine's menu for you to take home. Or experience on a guided tour of the Technical Museum how things can really “spark” between lovers. Love is in the air!

Wishing you a romantic week,

David Hockney
One of the most important exhibitions of this year starts today: The Kunstforum shows superstar David Hockney in Vienna! The British artist is known for his special, pop-art-like style. His painting “Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures)” was auctioned for 90.3 million US dollars and was until recently the most expensive painting sold by a living artist. His famous paintings of swimming pools continue to shape the visual identity of Los Angeles today. With 125 loans from 24 museums, this is the first comprehensive exhibition of David Hockney's work in Austria.

Sale at Kartell
Looking for a design bargain? The furniture pieces and lamps of the Italian company Kastell are almost all considered “design classics” already, whether it's the Louis Ghost chair by Philippe Starck or the Componibili container penned by Anna Castelli. The large Viennese flagship store is now making room for new things these days – and so you can buy cool design for less money. There is a discount of up to 60 percent on items in stock – chairs, stools, tables, lamps, accessories! And by the way: Kartell also produces some smart pieces for your office at home ;-)

Kangoo Power Workout
Jumping around like a kangaroo is not only great fun, but also a very effective workout! In the Kangoo Power Workout, you wear unusual shoes that cushion the jumps and make the sport extremely easy on the joints. In this lesson for beginners, you learn how to move correctly in those shoes and practise a choreography to some rousing music. The shoes kind of look like ski boots plus springs, promote body balance and make dancing even more fun. One trial session costs only 5 euros – don't forget to bring thick socks and a sports bra.

 Koenig Galerie Berlin
One Decade of Female Sculptors
Vienna is one art gallery richer! The König Galerie in the Kleines Haus der Kunst dedicates its first exhibition to female sculptors. Sculpture art involves manual skill and also a lot of strength at times. For a long time, it was considered the most unfeminine genre of art, but today it’s no longer a purely male domain. Here you can see works by 26 contemporary, very different artists: Xenia Hausner, for example, created Cinderella's shoes out of glass, while Jessica Stockholder embedded everyday objects such as toasters in her sculptures. Only until Sunday!

A blind date with Bruce Will-es. The online nickname says it all, because the womanizer has invited as many as three ladies for a date! When he arrives too late, the shy Jenny, the esoterically enlightened Hedwig and the sexually underchallenged Olga meet. After an initial quarrel, however, the three beauties quickly find a common denominator... In this comedy revue there is a lot to laugh about, and with new interpretations of numbers like “Nine to Five”, “Aber bitte mit Sahne” or “Mr. Bombastic”, there is also a lot to of music to sway to ;-)

Kunstsupermarkt
If it weren't for the pandemic, the Kunstsupermarkt would have closed long ago, but to make up for the lockdown time, it will stay open until 19 February this time. Prices and furnishings are reminiscent of a supermarket, but the art sold is real. In the temporary shop, you can buy original artworks for little money: drawings, watercolours, acrylic and oil paintings as well as small sculptures. Over 6,000 works by 95 national and international contemporary artists are presented – and definitely not posters or prints! The unique works can be taken home immediately after purchase.

Protest Songcontest 2022
The protest song contest is almost a Viennese tradition: grumbling and complaining is practically in our blood ;-) The annual music competition of the radio station FM4 is entering the final round: 10 songs are in the running for the protest song 2022. The topics? Everything from ant traps and speed limits to femicides and house searches. You can listen to it in advance here. Tonight we will vote for the winner! Michael Ostrowski will be the live host for the concert evening, and those who couldn't get a ticket can listen via live stream or radio.

Street Photography
Spend a Saturday afternoon wandering through the Prater, armed only with a camera... Photography-enthusiasts meet at Superbude today, a new, hip hotel on the edge of the Prater. Photographer Atila Vadoc explains how good street photography is generally created. Then we head out to the amusement park. Which is full of cool corners that are perfect for taking extraordinary photos – either with a camera you brought yourself or with your mobile phone. After the walk, there will be a debrief over coffee or a spritzer.

Mode Wien
Today, we see red – at least at the fashion store Mode Wien! Viennese fashion designers have come up with something and are celebrating Valentine's Day with the “colour of love”. In other words, clothing and accessories are available in all kinds of shades of red, often made by hand in Vienna. Among them is the Herzblut manufactory, which produces gothic-rocky fashion and lingerie, or Daniela Paradeis, who designs fair underwear that doesn't look like grandma's old knickers. Small things and big things in very different styles – perfect as a Valentine's Day gift or simply for yourself.

From the candle to the light bulb
...from the commode to the water closet. Today's guided tour at the Sisi Museum shows how modern the Hofburg was even in the emperor’s time! Even Emperor Franz Josef had always wanted the latest technology: electrification, modern toilets and district heating (!) were first installed in the imperial residences. The 1-hour tour shows not only the modernisations of the time but also what was customary before: richly decorated stoves, discreet commodes and romantic candlelight. Afterwards you can visit the Sisi Museum and the Imperial Apartments.

Billie Holliday Show
The jazz diva, whose career began in a bar in Harlem in the 1930s, comes to the Drachengasse Theatre from today! At least in spirit: US actress and singer Lynne Ann Williams embodies the jazz legend in a very special tribute. Billie Holliday aka Lady Day revolutionised the whole jazz genre with her special way of singing. “Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill” mimes one of Holliday's last performances in 1959, only four months before her death. Williams not only sings the famous songs, but also reminisces about the tragic life of the icon.

Bernhard Eder: Subterranean Echoes
The Upper Austrian singer-songwriter Bernhard Eder makes melancholic guitar pop. Formerly much played on FM4, Eder has meanwhile outgrown the youthfulness of the alternative scene. His current album, which was created in the various lockdowns, is much about being alone, in which one can find both solitude and peace. Eder's soft voice, mixed with guitar and synthesiser, is extremely atmospheric, and the fact that he can be experienced live on stage at TAG today tells one story above all: no matter how shitty something is, this too shall pass.

Tara Meditation
Every Tuesday, the Buddhist Centre in the 9th district pays homage to Arya Tara, the mother of all Buddhas. She stands for wisdom and reality and is said to help with spiritual growth. The Buddhist goddess is a sometimes gentle, sometimes wrathful teacher and helps to find a way out in difficult situations. Which all sounds pretty good so far! Together with experienced meditation teachers, mantras are chanted and meditation takes place. This can be done on site or online via the temple's website. In any case, it ensures relaxation and a clearer head!

Was denkt das Denkmal?
Monuments often cause public debate: are they important mementos that stand the test of time? Or shrines that pay homage to past times that we really don't wish back? This exciting anthology includes texts dealing with female nudity in sculptures, such as the statue of African-American Mary Thomas, unveiled only a few years ago to commemorate colonialism in Copenhagen, or the Berlin “Trostfrauen” statue, which commemorates forced prostitution of many women during the Second World War. Today is book presentation & discussion at Depot!

Lecture Mental Load
A woman comes home from work in the evening, cooks dinner for the children, chats with her partner while tidying up the flat to keep everything from descending into chaos – this is what the everyday life of many women looks like. Family duties still largely weigh on the female head of the family, and even worse: we automatically feel responsible. Today marks the beginning of an online lecture series by the counselling centre Frauen* beraten Frauen*, which explores what needs to change structurally and individually, so that the mental load doesn't become too much. Discussion afterwards is welcome!

K&K Vintage + Living
Tatjana Kopita has used the pandemic to turn her passion into a profession! She redesigns old furniture – and is therefore the place to go for all those who don't know what to do with grandma's old sofa set. Her small shop in the 5th district is not only a workshop but also a showroom for wonderful mid-century special finds: 50s mirrors with lighting, vintage lamps or even a “dinner boy”, a table for keeping food warm, can be found here. And a few steps away, Kopita's brother repairs old hi-fi systems and record players. Thus K&K ;-)

Kng Tao
Now this doesn't really look like the usual Chinese restaurant! Red velvet thrones, colourful deities and warriors in huge frescoes on the wall, rough brick walls – visually, Kng Tao seems to have somehow stepped out of a video game. But you sit very comfortably here and with enough distance to your neighbours, which is nice enough in times of a pandemic. The menu is also rather wild. At least as far as the innards are concerned. The less daring should stick more to the variety of delicious small skewers or to the dishes with homemade noodles.
