In this graphic reinterpretation of Pina Bausch’s the ‘Nelken Line’, director Preeti deconstructs the walk of the ‘Nelken Line’ and the seasonal elements they represent through blocking, art design and colour – or lack thereof. Being inspired by music video styles of the 90s and classic broadway dance stages, she directed this version of the ‘Nelken Line’ to engage the viewer and take them back.
Preeti first came to know about Pina Bausch from a YouTube trailer for the documentary by Wim Wenders entitled ‘Pina’, after randomly surfing the internet one night in 2012. After being immediately shocked by the bold theatrical and athletic performances of the dance and dancers on screen, Preeti became interested and inspired by Pina Bausch's work and brave style not only as a dancer herself, but also a filmmaker.
Through this playful activity we were able to live together and have fun as well as letting our students know Pina Bausch's artistic work, the participants found Pina's movement pleasant, meditative and soothing.

PTAMKD is a group of friends who met through the love of dance and love of Pina - all from different backgrounds yet united through moving together over the years.
On a cold autumn day at a newly opened art gallery in East London, Dance the Nelken Line took place as a public event where we invited the visitors to learn and join us in the line. From morning till night, we danced the Nelken Line for 10 hours. Everyone was so happy and could not stop smiling!!
